One Piece Episode 1177 Review: A Tense Elbaf Episode Ends With a Bang

Some One Piece episodes are exciting because of huge fights, while others work because they make the danger feel impossible to escape. Episode 1177 belongs to the second group. After watching it, what stayed with me most was just how helpless Elbaf feels with the Holy Knights in control.

The episode does not rush to give us a big hero moment. Instead, it spends most of its runtime showing how deeply the Holy Knights have infiltrated Elbaf and how much they are willing to destroy to achieve their goal. That makes the final moments involving Robin and Gaban feel even more satisfying.

The Holy Knights Make Elbaf Feel Truly Helpless

For me, the strongest part of One Piece Episode 1177 is how effectively it makes the Holy Knights feel like an overwhelming threat. Sommers’ announcement to the people of Elbaf is not just another villain speech. It shows that the Holy Knights want the Giants to understand exactly who is in control.

Their plan is also much more disturbing than simply taking over the island. Sommers openly explains that they want the Giants to become slaves who can be used in battle. That gives the entire situation a much darker feeling.

Meanwhile, seeing the kids wake up and realize that they have been taken away from their families is difficult to watch, especially because they cannot even control where they are going. The situation becomes even more uncomfortable when the children are forced to walk while the MMAs surround them.

The Giants initially try to rescue the children, only to realize that the creatures attacking them are connected to the children’s fears. The reveal that some of these MMAs resemble angry mothers is both bizarre and unsettling in classic One Piece fashion.

But the One Piece episode becomes much more serious when Sommers starts talking about Elbaf’s schools and library. The demand to destroy them is particularly important because the library represents the knowledge and history that Elbaf has protected. It also contains knowledge preserved by the people of Ohara. That makes Sommers’ demand feel like more than an attack on buildings. It is an attempt to erase part of the Giants’ identity and their connection to the wider world.

Robin and Gaban Give the Episode a Powerful Final Push

The episode saves its biggest emotional impact for the final stretch. Robin’s decision to finally reveal herself is easily one of my favorite moments.

She has been hiding because Saul warned her about Sommers and the Holy Knights. Saul knew how dangerous they were, and he wanted Robin and Chopper to wait for the right opportunity. But after hearing that the Holy Knights want to destroy the school and library, Robin can no longer sit back. That reaction makes perfect sense for her character.

Robin knows better than almost anyone what it means to lose a place filled with knowledge. She survived Ohara, watched the World Government destroy her home, and spent years being hunted because of what she knew. Seeing the same kind of threat appear in Elbaf naturally hits much closer to home for her.

That is why her decision at the end feels more powerful than simply having another character jump into a fight. Robin is standing up to something that reminds her of the tragedy she survived.

Gaban preparing to move also gives the ending a different kind of excitement. His motivation is much more personal, as he wants to rescue his son Colon. After everything the episode shows us about the children’s situation, seeing Gaban finally prepare to act feels like the payoff the episode has been building toward.

And honestly, this is where the episode left me wanting more. After spending so much time showing how powerful and confident the Holy Knights are, Episode 1177 of One Piece finally gives us the feeling that they might have pushed the wrong people too far. Robin and Gaban are not characters you can simply ignore, and seeing both of them ready to move creates a strong sense of anticipation for what comes next.

One Piece Episode 1177 Final Verdict

One Piece Episode 1177 worked because it understands that tension does not always need to come from a massive battle. The Holy Knights spend most of the episode showing how much control they have over Elbaf, and that makes the island feel genuinely vulnerable.

But the ending is what really makes the episode stand out. Robin finally deciding to step forward is a fantastic character moment, while Gaban‘s decision to rescue Colon gives the episode another emotional punch. After watching the Holy Knights dominate the situation for so long, seeing two major characters prepare to push back gives the episode the kind of ending that makes you immediately want the next one.

Overall, One Piece Episode 1177 is a tense and surprisingly heavy Elbaf episode that spends most of its time making the Holy Knights feel unstoppable before ending with a much-needed spark of hope.
