The Sergei Bobrovsky era in Toronto is about to begin. The Maple Leafs on Wednesday signed the veteran goaltender to a three-year contract with an average annual value of $7 million US, as free agency opened in the National Hockey League. The Leafs officially announced the signing just before 4 p.m.

Bryan Adams takes jab at ’51st state’ rhetoric with Canada Day release
O Canada, Bryan Adams stands on guard for thee. The 66-year-old veteran Canadian rocker chose Canada Day to release a “tongue-in-cheek” new single called 51st State, which appears to be a response to U.S. President Donald Trump’s constant remarks about Canada becoming their “51st state,” which he has repeated frequently in his second term — including a mocking social media post exactly a month ago that was shared by U.S. Ambassador to Canada Peter Hoekstra.

CUSMA not being renewed in its ‘current form,’ U.S. trade rep says
The United States said Wednesday that it will not renew the free-trade pact with Canada and Mexico in its current form. U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said in a statement that the three countries met virtually to discuss the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA or USMCA in the U.S.) as required under the trade pact’s joint review. “The United States did not agree to renew the USMCA in its current form,” Greer said. “As a result, the USMCA is not renewed.”
