Spoilers for Netflix's My Dearest Assassin

The latest Thai martial arts thriller on Netflix, My Dearest Assassin, was a brutal watch right from the beginning. It centered around Lhan, played by Pimchanok Luevisadpaibul, who possesses the extremely rare Aurum blood type. Her parents were killed by the contract killer, Pruek, aka The Hunter, after a rich gangster wanted someone to provide him with the rare blood. However, she is rescued from Pruek by Poh, who is the leader of the House89 assassin group.

He brings her along with him and hides her in his home, telling his son Pran to take care of her. However, it is soon revealed that Poh brought her home because Pran, too, has the same blood, and she is supposed to be his backup blood bank. It is revealed during a violent shootout in which Poh and many of the House89 assassins die after Pruek attacks them with the help of the rival Mala gang. Lhan, Pran, M (another stray kid Poh brought home), and two other assassins escape from their home.

Faced with capture or death at the hands of the Hunter, how do they plan to survive? Will Lhan finally get to learn to kill and take revenge on Pruek? What happens to Lhan, Pran, and M in the end? Here’s how things go down at the end of My Dearest Assassin.

What Happened to Lhan in My Dearest Assassin Climax?

After their escape from the shootout, Lhan is angry about two things. One, she didn’t know she was supposed to be a blood bank for Pran. And two, she caused the deaths of Poh and others. However, M tells her that they also didn’t know about her Aurum blood and convinces her to stay with them. However, she doesn’t want to hide behind her fellow assassins anymore. She tells Pran that she wants to fight them just like everyone and wants him to teach her.

While they are initially hesitant, they are impressed after learning that Lhan taught herself pretty decent fighting techniques just by seeing them fight. Lhan is shown to be a quick learner, and she becomes a great fighter in a matter of just a couple of months. A little unbelievable, but the stakes are higher at this point as Pruek is closing in on their new location, so we want her to be ready.

The team decides that they are done hiding and launches a plan to counterattack Pruek and the Mala gang. When Pruek and his deadly bunch of assassins arrive, they are surprised by House89’s attack, which now includes a fully-trained Lhan. A brutal and violent action sequence takes place in a multistory building, in which two of the senior House89 assassins die. However, M kills one of the Mala gang leaders, Pran knocks out the other, and Lhan seemingly kills Pruek after a brutal knife fight.

We would have been satisfied if the movie ended right there, as Lhan, Pran, and M escape from the building. However, the director had no intention of giving us the happy ending we wanted. As they are driving away from the building, a sniper shot hits Lhan in the chest. The Mala gang leader woke up and apparently found a sniper rifle. Remember, it’s the Aurum blood that Lhan is losing, so Pran has to donate his very precious blood to keep Lhan alive.

M drives the van in search of a hospital, but the gang leader catches up to them. M fights and manages to kill the gang leader, but he is fatally wounded in the fight. Pran is heartbroken that he couldn’t save M, and he slowly loses consciousness from losing his blood. When Lhan wakes up the next day, she finds out that Pran sacrificed his life to save her. It’s a tragic ending for Pran and M, but even more so for Lhan, who lost all the closest people in her life.

Is The Hunter Really Dead?

After the tragic deaths of Pran and M, we are shown that Lhan is living somewhere peacefully with her SON! She and Pran had an intimate night before the battle, so we got that smallest satisfaction that Lhan now has someone to live for. However, we were also shown a troubling scene where the Hunter moves his finger, suggesting that Lhan didn’t manage to kill him.

For a second, we believed we would see a sequel where Pruek comes for Lhan, and she has to protect her son at all costs. But the very next scene shattered any such expectations when Pruek, now healed from all his injuries, gets a visitor with a gift box. He opens it and finds the gun that he used to kill Lhan’s family. He shockingly looks at the visitor, who turns out to be Lhan. She is quick on her feet and immediately kills Pruek, this time making sure that her job is done completely.

My Dearest Assassin wouldn’t meet your expectations for a great action thriller. It has its moments, but it often depends on very cliched storytelling to move things forward. However, some martial arts scenes were exceptionally good. The thing still confusing everyone is probably how the Aurum blood transfer works!
