MobLand Season 2 Episode 5 Ending Explained: Who Is Medusa, and Why Does Harry Kill Him?

Frankie Cooper has finally brought the Harrigans to their knees on MobLand Season 2 Episode 5, but wiping out their empire may prove considerably harder than storming their family estate. Harry Da Souza has killed plenty of dangerous men for the Harrigans, but episode 5 sends him racing to Ireland to eliminate a mysterious criminal named Medusa before Eddie and Gina pay for Maeve’s latest reckless scheme.

MobLand Season 2 Episode 4 left Conrad openly challenging Harry after attacking Frankie’s wrecking yard, while Maeve secretly dispatched Eddie and Gina to Ireland without explaining their assignment. Episode 5, Birdland, finally exposes the perilous nature of that journey when Eddie receives orders involving a criminal known as Medusa. Unfortunately, the inexperienced Harrigan heir is woefully unprepared for the confrontation, forcing Harry to choose between protecting his family in London and saving two youngsters from Maeve’s dangerous gamble. With Frankie preparing another devastating attack, Harry’s decision could hardly come at a worse time.

Maeve’s decision to send Eddie and Gina to Kenmare initially resembles another attempt to keep them away from the Harrigan family’s troubles, but the contents of a mysterious gift basket suggest she has considerably more sinister intentions.

Conrad’s attack on Frankie’s scrapyard leaves several men dead and JoJo imprisoned at the Harrigan estate, where the patriarch tortures him for information. Harry arrives with Kevin and Bella, but he kills JoJo before the captive can endure further interrogation. He subsequently tells Conrad that the prisoner bled to death, concealing his own involvement. I found that deception suspicious because Harry rarely wastes an opportunity to extract useful intelligence. His decision could have been merciful, although keeping Conrad ignorant of JoJo’s execution suggests another calculation.

Conrad keeps belittling Kevin while Harry tries to end the family feud before Frankie takes advantage. Maeve makes matters worse by encouraging Conrad’s distrust of Harry and admitting she intended to poison Seraphina. I suspected her target, but planning to kill Conrad’s daughter is appalling. Meanwhile, Kavanagh discovers Finch was murdered, adding to Harry’s troubles.

Why Does Harry Kill Medusa in Ireland?

Maeve’s latest scheme sends Eddie and Gina to Kenmare, Ireland, where a mysterious gift basket contains a firearm and instructions to visit McMullan’s. Maeve instructs Eddie to bring her the head of Medusa, a mysterious criminal portrayed by Colm Meaney. Eddie eventually encounters him at McMullan’s in Kenmare, where Medusa arrives surrounded by associates. His intimidating presence suggests considerable influence in the local criminal world, although the episode offers little information about his background or his history with Maeve.

Unfortunately, Eddie has little experience with firearms, and watching him consult online tutorials before attempting an assassination hardly inspires confidence. Gina initially believes they are enjoying a romantic getaway, but Eddie eventually admits that Maeve has ordered him to kill Medusa.

Gina begs Eddie to abandon Maeve’s dangerous mission, but he refuses, so she walks away. I found his choice infuriating, especially after everything Gina has risked for him. Predictably, Medusa captures Eddie, who immediately names Maeve as his employer, betraying the very person he wanted to impress. Medusa threatens him with horrific violence, while Gina returns and attempts to intervene despite their argument. Harry learns about Maeve’s assassination order through Paul and immediately recognizes the danger awaiting Eddie and Gina. He abandons the Harrigan family meeting and travels to Ireland, where Eddie’s attempt to kill Medusa has already gone disastrously wrong.

Medusa captures Eddie, who immediately names Maeve as his employer. Gina risks her life trying to save him, but Harry arrives and kills Medusa and his men. Maeve’s manipulation is especially appalling, since she sends two inexperienced youngsters into danger and forces Harry to leave the Harrigans vulnerable. That absence becomes disastrous when Frankie makes his move.

MobLand Ending Explained: Has Frankie Destroyed the Harrigans?

After Frankie’s introduction on MobLand Season 2 Episode 1, Episode 5 sees him overrun the Harrigans’ Cotswolds estate. Seraphina accidentally exposes the Harrigans’ gathering, allowing Donnie and Colin to arrange Frankie’s attack with Kat’s approval. Despite her warning, gunmen storm the estate and kill several guards. Conrad, Maeve, Kevin, Bella, Seraphina, and Paul escape by helicopter, but the family loses its stronghold and protection. I was surprised nobody central died, although Frankie still manages to humiliate the Harrigans and expose their vulnerability.

He demonstrates that the Harrigans cannot defend their own home without Harry, whose absence results directly from Maeve’s reckless Irish assignment. Seraphina’s double-agent arrangement also becomes increasingly precarious. The surviving Harrigans now face an uncomfortable reality: their enemies possess the resources to attack them directly, while their own leadership remains fractured.

I find Maeve’s decision to send Eddie after Medusa particularly reprehensible because she knew how inexperienced he was, yet apparently considered him expendable enough to carry out a dangerous assassination. Harry saves Eddie and Gina, but his absence also leaves the Harrigans vulnerable to Frankie’s attack. Whether Maeve anticipated those consequences remains uncertain, although her recklessness has now endangered both generations of the family.

Why was Maeve so determined to eliminate Medusa, and did she knowingly send Eddie into a confrontation he couldn’t survive? Share your theories below, and follow FandomWire for more MobLand recaps and ending explainers.
