Dragon Ball Super 2 has fans wondering what the future holds for Vegeta and his ever-growing arsenal of transformations. While the sequel’s direction remains a topic of speculation, the franchise has already given the Saiyan prince several powerful forms across its anime and spin-offs.
From his iconic Super Saiyan awakening in Dragon Ball Z to the primal might of Super Saiyan 4 in Dragon Ball GT and the extraordinary upgrades in Super Dragon Ball Heroes, Vegeta‘s transformations showcase his relentless pursuit of strength. Here are nine of his strongest transformations outside the main Dragon Ball Super storyline, ranked.
9 Great Ape: The Moon-Fed Monster That Lost Its Tail Years Ago

However, the form also has drawbacks, particularly its difficulty with precise movements compared with smaller transformations. Vegeta eventually lost his tail, preventing him from transforming naturally. It ranks ninth because its tremendous physical strength is impressive, but his later transformations offer significantly greater combat potential.
8 Super Saiyan: The Golden Glow That Crushed Android 19 With Ease
Super Saiyan | Credits: Toei AnimationVegeta’s first Super Saiyan transformation remains one of his most satisfying moments in Dragon Ball Z. After training relentlessly, the Saiyan prince revealed his golden-haired form during his battle against Android 19.
Vegeta made short work of the android and demonstrated the devastating power of his Big Bang Attack. The transformation also marked a turning point in his rivalry with Goku, proving that he could achieve the legendary state through his own determination. It takes eighth place because it was a defining breakthrough, although Vegeta eventually surpassed it with considerably stronger transformations.
7 Super Saiyan Second Grade: Super Vegeta’s Cocky Gamble Against Cell
Super Saiyan Second Grade | Credits: Toei AnimationVegeta’s Super Saiyan Second Grade form, which he proudly called Super Vegeta, showcased what happened when the Saiyan prince pushed his original transformation beyond its limits. Developed during his training in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, this enhanced state increased his muscle mass and fighting power without the severe speed reduction associated with Super Saiyan Third Grade.
He initially overwhelmed Semi-Perfect Cell, making his confidence seem justified. Unfortunately, his arrogance caught up with him when Cell achieved his Perfect Form. Vegeta’s subsequent defeat exposed the limitations of his upgrade. It ranks seventh because the transformation delivered a substantial improvement but couldn’t overcome Cell’s superior power.
6 Super Saiyan 3: Vegeta’s Late, Surprising DAIMA Transformation
Super Saiyan 3 | Credits: Toei AnimationDragon Ball DAIMA finally gave Vegeta an official Super Saiyan 3 transformation, a milestone fans had waited years to see. During his battle against Tamagami Number Two, Vegeta unveiled the long-haired form and used its tremendous power to defeat his opponent.
However, the transformation consumes considerable energy, making it less practical for prolonged battles. Its appearance in DAIMA also expanded Vegeta’s established repertoire without changing the history of his earlier fights. It earns sixth place because its formidable power makes it a major upgrade over his earlier Super Saiyan forms.
5 Golden Great Ape: The Giant Gold Beast Bulma’s Machine Made
Golden Great Ape | Credits: Toei AnimationIn Dragon Ball GT, Vegeta found a way to achieve Super Saiyan 4 without relying on a naturally regrown tail. Bulma used her Blutz Wave Generator to trigger his Great Ape transformation, allowing him to become a Golden Great Ape before regaining control and ascending to Super Saiyan 4. The golden beast combines the destructive strength of the Great Ape with the power associated with Super Saiyan transformations.
However, Vegeta’s ability to control his instincts was essential to progressing beyond this enormous form. His transformation also demonstrated how Bulma’s technology could help him overcome a biological limitation. It ranks fifth because its overwhelming power makes it an essential stepping stone to Super Saiyan 4.
4 Super Saiyan 4: The Primal Dragon Ball GT Form He Truly Earned
Super Saiyan 4 | Credits: Toei AnimationVegeta’s Super Saiyan 4 transformation in Dragon Ball GT stands out because it combines his Saiyan heritage with his willingness to accept help. After Bulma’s Blutz Wave Generator transformed him into a Golden Great Ape, Vegeta regained control and achieved the powerful red-furred form.
Unlike a simple colour change, Super Saiyan 4 represents a return to a Saiyan’s primal power while retaining a humanoid fighting style and greater control. It allowed Vegeta to fight alongside Goku against Omega Shenron, although defeating their powerful opponent remained a challenge. It takes fourth place because it delivers an enormous power boost, but the more extreme transformations in Super Dragon Ball Heroes push Vegeta further.
3 Super Saiyan Blue (Berserk): Evil Ki Takes Over Vegeta’s Body
Super Saiyan Blue (Berserk) | Credits: Toei AnimationIn Super Dragon Ball Heroes, Vegeta’s Super Saiyan Blue (Berserk) transformation takes his familiar blue-haired form in a much darker direction. After Fu corrupts his Super Saiyan Blue state with Cumber’s evil ki, Vegeta gains a dangerous power boost but loses control of his fighting instincts. His movements become more primal, and he struggles to fight with his usual precision.
Although the transformation makes him more dangerous, the loss of control is a significant weakness. This form belongs to the Super Dragon Ball Heroes continuity rather than the main Dragon Ball Super storyline. It earns third place because the corrupted energy greatly enhances his power, despite compromising his combat discipline.
2 Super Full Power Saiyan 4 Limit Breaker: Xeno Vegeta Maxes Out
Super Full Power Saiyan 4 Limit Breaker | Credits: Toei AnimationXeno Vegeta’s Super Full Power Saiyan 4 Limit Breaker form takes the already powerful Super Saiyan 4 transformation to another level in Super Dragon Ball Heroes. During the battle against the enhanced Janemba, Xeno Vegeta and Xeno Goku struggle against their opponent’s overwhelming strength. Their allies, including Goku, Vegeta, Xeno Trunks, and Pan, transfer their energy to the two warriors, allowing them to break through their limits.
The resulting transformation gives both Saiyans enough power to overwhelm Janemba and ultimately defeat him with their Double Ultimate Dragon Fist technique. It takes second place because the enormous energy boost pushes Xeno Vegeta far beyond his standard Super Saiyan 4 capabilities.
1 Super Saiyan Blue (Controlled Berserk): Vegeta Tames the Evil Ki
Super Saiyan Blue (Controlled Berserk) | Credits: Toei AnimationVegeta’s Super Saiyan Blue (Controlled Berserk) transformation represents the refined version of the corrupted power he previously struggled to control in Super Dragon Ball Heroes. Rather than allowing evil ki to overwhelm him, Vegeta learns to harness the dangerous energy and turn it into a source of strength.
The achievement suits Vegeta’s character, as his determination and pride have always driven him to overcome his limitations. However, mastering the form does not make him unbeatable against every opponent. It claims first place because combining the power of evil ki with greater control makes it a more effective transformation than its Berserk predecessor.
