2026’s Biggest 16% RT Horror Bomb Officially Beats Spider-Man: Brand New Day

While Spider-Man: Brand New Day broke historic records at the box office and received rave reviews from critics and fans alike, one RT bomb seems to have finally brought it down. Jessica Chastain’s Other Mommy, despite being a bomb with critics and fans on Rotten Tomatoes, has been named the most popular movie of the week (via RT).

The horror film starring Chastain and following a doppelganger received a 16% score on the platform, with audiences rating it better at 48% (via RT, as of October 15, 2026). However, the film has been rising at the box office and secured a great opening weekend. Spider-Man, on the other hand, has dropped to 9th place.

Horror has been on a roll in 2026, with films like Obsession, Backrooms, and Iron Lung becoming huge hits. Now that Halloween month is here, audiences are in the mood for some chills and thrills. That is probably why, despite the low scores for Other Mommy, the film is at the top of RT’s list of popular films of the week.

Starring Jessica Chastain and directed by Rob Savage, Other Mommy follows 7-year-old Isabella and her mother, who have to deal with a supernatural doppelganger that haunts the family. While the film was one of the most anticipated movies of the year, with many comparing it to the horrific portions of Coraline, the film itself seemed to be disappointing.

While it has an abysmal score on Rotten Tomatoes, the film secured a great opening at the box office. It earned $27.5 million in the opening week, emerging number one at the domestic box office, beating biggies like The Social Reckoning and the week-old Verity. The film’s box office numbers currently stand at $55.4 million (via The Numbers, as of October 15, 2026).

With the horror genre on a hot streak, it is no wonder that films like Other Mommy and Verity are winning at the box office despite negative reviews. The genre itself seems to interest audiences, who have received great material already from small-budget films like Obsession.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day Is Still in Top 10 After Digital Release

While Other Mommy is hardly the biggest blockbuster of the year, it has taken the top spot on the popular movies of the week list on Rotten Tomatoes. It has beaten some solid films of the year like Digger, Primetime, Resident Evil, and Heart of the Beast. It has also beaten the highest-grossing film of the year, Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

The fourth solo Spider-Man film from Tom Holland has broken several records since its release in July, and even beat out the world’s highest-grossing film of all time, Avengers: Endgame, in the domestic market. Holland has also become the highest-grossing actor of all time, beating actors like Scarlett Johansson and Zoe Saldana. He was also in The Odyssey.

While Other Mommy dominates the popular movies list on RT, Brand New Day has not faded away. It is still among the top 10 movies, securing the ninth spot on the list. While more recent movies like Primetime and Digger rank above it for obvious reasons, the fact that the film is still on the list even after three months is incredible.

The film was also recently released on digital, with Brand New Day available for rent since October 6, 2026. That has given the movie renewed interest among fans. A re-release in theatres with bonus footage is also reportedly in the works, though there is no exact date for the same.
