Marvel Rivals players who were recently suspended for using mods have received some welcome news from NetEase Games. The developer has lifted suspensions imposed over the previous two days on players who used certain types of modifications, following an investigation into account violations.
However, this does not mean those mods are now permitted. In a new announcement (quite the lengthy one at that), NetEase has explained which modifications can compromise competitive fairness, identified some specific files that trigger anti-cheat detection, and sternly asked affected players to remove them before returning to the game.
NetEase Explains Which Marvel Rivals Mods Can Lead to Suspensions
You have been warned, they say. | Credit: NetEase GamesIn its latest October 15 announcement, Use of Mods and Violation Management, NetEase explained that some modifications use techniques similar to those employed by cheat engines. These include memory injection and modification behaviours that can trigger Marvel Rivals’ anti-cheat system.
The developer also identified four types of modifications that can create unfair advantages:
- Modified models and textures: Changes that create asymmetric lines of sight or provide an unfair visual advantage.
- Removed recoil and visual effects: Modifications that eliminate screen shake, bullet trajectories, or impact effects, making aiming and tracking easier.
- Altered audio: Changes to in-game sounds, including footsteps, that make it easier to locate opponents.
- Enlarged enemy models: Changes that make opposing characters easier to spot and target.
NetEase confirmed in the same statement that it has already lifted suspensions imposed over the previous two days on players who used these types of mods. However, the developer has also made it clear that this decision does not change its enforcement policy, and continued use of prohibited modifications can and will still result in penalties.
The announcement also asks affected players to stop using the mods, shut down related programs, and permanently delete the modifications and any changes made to the game’s content. As for anyone who has been banned for using a mod and is yet to have their suspension lifted, they can appeal through the developer’s official Customer Support channels.

NetEase’s announcement specifically names two files: “pystubber.asi” and “MarvelRivalsUnmountBlocker.asi”. According to the developer, these files execute operations that directly trigger anti-cheat detection for unauthorized client modifications.
The names have drawn attention amid recent community reports about mod-related suspensions. In September, players on Reddit reported that a game update had disrupted the loading of many client-side cosmetic mods. Subsequently (and more recently), discussions on modding sites, like this Nexus Mods mod page, raised concerns about the most popular “Mod Loader” tool itself that is used to keep said modifications working.
The latest statement provides a very clear warning about the two named files. Still, it stops short of declaring every cosmetic mod safe or saying that all mod users were suspended for gaining a competitive advantage:
Our goal has always been to strike a balance between player customization and a fair competitive environment. As long as the fairness of the game is not compromised, we want to preserve the space for our players to freely choose how they play.
If you’re using mods of any kind in Marvel Rivals, we highly recommend reviewing NetEase’s official announcement and removing any prohibited files and modifications it identifies. If you believe your suspension was issued incorrectly, contact the official Customer Support to appeal (the official Discord is a good place to start).
