“MGO was so good”: Will Metal Gear Solid Delta Bring Back Metal Gear Online Or Will It Be a Single Player Only Experience?

The anticipation for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater has been building steadily ever since its announcement, and especially more so after the recent press demos where the press got their first taste of this highly anticipated remake. 

While the game’s visuals and attention to detail have been praised, fans of the series are left wondering if the remake will include a return of the beloved Metal Gear Online multiplayer mode. The absence of a definitive answer from Konami on this matter has only led to speculation and hopes that an online component could still be a possibility.

The Big Question Is Whether Metal Gear Online Will Return

Despite all the focus on single-player content, the big question for many fans is whether Metal Gear Online will make a comeback in the remake. Metal Gear Online was first introduced in the Subsistence version of the original Metal Gear Solid 3 and became a fan-favorite due to its unique gameplay that combined stealth and tactical combat in a multiplayer setting. 

The mode was popular enough to be included in subsequent games like the fourth and fifth entries in the franchise, and its absence in the Delta remake would be a major disappointment for many gamers.

When the players of the demo asked about the possibility of including an online mode similar to what was available in Subsistence, Konami’s response was vague, offering a “no comment” instead of a clear denial. 

This has led to speculation that a multiplayer mode could still be added post-launch, depending on fan demand. The fact that Konami hasn’t outright dismissed the idea gives fans hope that they may see the mode return in some form, even if it’s not available at launch.

The idea of a post-launch multiplayer update for Metal Gear Solid Delta isn’t far-fetched, as Ghost of Tsushima’s Legends multiplayer mode was only revealed after the game was released. 

Konami could be seeing fan interest in the online mode and could potentially bring it back if there’s enough demand.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is being developed as a one-to-one remake of the original game. The game has been rebuilt from the ground up using Unreal Engine 5, but the core experience remains nearly identical to the 2004 classic, including the same voice acting which hasn’t been re-recorded.

The demo showcased stunning new graphics and some quality-of-life improvements, such as quicker access to camouflage combinations and a more streamlined radio system. 

These updates are designed to make the gameplay experience smoother and less menu-intensive, addressing one of the main criticisms of the original, with its rather tedious controls.

The game’s overall structure, including the transition between different jungle areas, remains faithful to the original. As it stands, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater looks to offer a visually stunning and faithful remake of one of the most beloved games in the series.

While the single-player experience is almost a direct adaptation of the original, the absence of confirmation on Metal Gear Online leaves a significant part of the fan base in suspense, for now at least.
