After a fairly alright 2024, the Marvel Cinematic Universe braces itself as the superhero world steps into the new year with new projects. From Marvel’s First Family and a villainous team-up to Peter Parker’s origin story and the adventures of our favorite lawyer/vigilante, Marvel sure has cooked up some fascinating titles for us this year. Now, the question is, will it be New Year, New MCU, or will the superhero universe once again fall victim to mediocre, underwhelming projects? Only time will tell.
The animated television series, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, will kick off 2025 only to be followed by Anthony Mackie’s Captain America: Brave New World. Despite the nine projects coming out this year, it is a given that the fans are the most excited about one – Daredevil: Born Again. However, let’s not knock ’em till we try ’em as there might be some gems in the list! Let’s check them out.
Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man (January)
The animated series created by Jeff Trammell will focus on the origin story of our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. It stars Hudson Thames as the titular character and has none other than Colman Domingo voicing Norman Osborn.
As for the plot, the series will focus on the early days of an alternate timeline Peter. The twist? This time Norman Osborn is going to be his mentor, not Tony Stark. We wonder how that will work.
The animated series will consist of ten episodes and will be released on January 29, on Disney+.
Captain America: Brave New World (February)
This Valentine’s Day, forget the roses and pick up your shields as Anthony Mackie takes over the mantle of Captain America. The second-last film in Phase 5, Sam Wilson finds himself in the midst of an international incident after the election of Thaddeus Ross aka the Red Hulk himself!
The film is directed by Julius Onah and will be released in theatres on February 14. With a brand-new global crisis looming, Sam and Mackie both have to prove a lot to the fans. After all, stepping into Chris Evans’ shoes is no easy feat.
Daredevil: Born Again (March)
The moment we have all been waiting for. Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock is back and he is supposed to be better than ever. Staying true to the Netflix original, the series will be rated TV-MA, much to the relief of fans who were dreading Marvel Studios watering their favorite lawyer down.
Dario Scardapane’s series will connect to Netflix’s, Daredevil, and will have a total of nine episodes focusing on Matt Murdock collision with mob boss Wilson Fisk. Born Again will be released on March 04 on Disney+.
Thunderbolts (May)
If Avengers are the valedictorians of the school, Thunderbolts are the rebellious group who do things their way. The ragtag team of morally ambiguous misfits like Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes and Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova combine forces as they go on missions for the American government. Well, sometimes, you need a morally grey team to pull off some questionable stunts!
Directed by Jake Schreier, the film will be released in theatres on May 02.
Ironheart (June)
The final project in Phase 5, Ironheart is set after the events of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and will focus on Riri Williams’ (Dominique Thorne) return to Chicago where she finds herself face-to-face with The Hood. How will technology fare against magic? We shall find out.
The miniseries is created by Chinaka Hodge and will have a total of 6 episodes. It will premiere on Disney+ on June 24.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps (July)
Phase 6 is starting off strong with Marvel’s First Family finally making their way to the MCU. Starring Pedro Pascal and Vanessa Kirby among others, The Fantastic Four: First Steps is set in a 1960s-inspired retro-futuristic Earth and will focus on the team protecting their home from Galactus and the Silver Surfer. Already, we are invested!
Of course, there is always risk involved when bringing new characters into the MCU, especially when they are as iconic as the Fantastic Four. But hey, sometimes risks result in beautiful things! Directed by Matt Shakman, the film will be released in theatres on July 25 and is the only Phase 6 film coming out this year!
Eyes of Wakanda (August)
The first television series of Phase 6, Eyes of Wakanda is an animated miniseries based on the Wakandan warriors, Hatut Zaraze. Believe it or not, the series will have a total of four episodes to its name and will follow the Hatut Zaraze as they work together to retrieve Vibranium artifacts from around the world. and stars
Eyes of Wakanda is created by Todd Harris and stars Winnie Harlow among others. It is all set to be released on Disney+ on August 06.
Marvel Zombies (October)
Now this is something that is bound to catch your eye! Created by Zeb Wells, the animated miniseries is set in the alternate timeline introduced in What If…?’s episode, What If…Zombies?!
The story seems rather interesting – a group of survivors fighting against former heroes and superheroes that have been turned into zombies. Sign us up! A ton of characters are expected to show up in the series including Shang-Chi, Yelena Belova, Kate Bishop, Wanda Maximoff, and more. This will also have a total of four episodes and will be released on October 03 on Disney+.
Wonder Man (December)
And the 2025 season will come to an end with Destin Daniel Cretton and Andrew Guest’s Wonder Man. Starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as the titular character, the miniseries will focus on Hollywood actor Simon Williams who is pushed into the superhero life after he gets powers of his own.
Credit where credit is due, Marvel Studios are trying their best to bring unique storylines into the mix and Wonder Man is the perfect example of one. It will be released sometime in December on Disney+ and will have a total of 8-10 episodes.
Clearly, there is something for everyone this year! With a slate this ambitious, Marvel Studios hopes to reignite the magic that made the MCU a global phenomenon. From the looks of it, they just might succeed.
