Marvel Star Officially Cast as RoboCop in Prime Video Reboot Series

Detroit has officially found its next protector, and fans are in for a wild, action-packed ride. Marvel alum Dan Stevens, best known to comic book fans for his critically acclaimed, powerhouse performance in FX’s Legion, has officially been cast to lead Prime Video’s upcoming RoboCop reboot series. The high-profile live-action television adaptation from Amazon MGM Studios, and James Wan’s Blumhouse Atomic Monster banner has secured Stevens to portray the iconic law enforcer. Consisting of eight high-stakes episodes, the reboot will modernize Paul Verhoeven‘s legendary 1987 cyberpunk classic, delivering a contemporary satire focused on tech ethics and corporate overreach.

Stepping into the cybernetic boots originally worn by Peter Weller, Stevens will star as Officer Alex Murphy, the dedicated Detroit cop who is resurrected as a cybernetic powerhouse after a fatal encounter in the line of duty. Following the franchise’s classic core narrative, the series follows a massive tech conglomerate that convinces a crumbling city to unleash an unstoppable machine into the police force, only for the fallen officer’s lingering humanity and memories to challenge his programming.

The ambitious eight-episode project is being written and headed by showrunner Peter Ocko (Lodge 49, Black Sails). Producing alongside Ocko are genre titan James Wan (Aquaman, The Conjuring), Michael Clear, and Rob Hackett under Blumhouse Atomic Monster.

In a massive nod to franchise purists, original 1987 RoboCop co-creators and screenwriters Ed Neumeier and Michael Miner are also attached as executive producers, ensuring the reboot retains the gritty, satirical bite that made the original property an undisputed pop-culture landmark.

Stevens is no stranger to complex, physically demanding genre roles. Beyond anchoring Marvel’s Legion as David Haller, he has proven his versatility in major action and genre hits like The Guest, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, and Abigail. His knack for balancing manic intensity with genuine emotional vulnerability makes him an inspired pick for a hero grappling with corporate control and lost identity.
