Marvel’s merchandise reveal with Hot Toys ahead of Avengers: Doomsday has put fans in a frenzy. The new action-figure line that puts Doctor Doom and the Fantastic Four battling together seems to have a key character missing. Johnny Storm, a.k.a. The Human Torch, played by Joseph Quinn in the MCU, is not shown.

— DiscussingFilm (@DiscussingFilm) October 2, 2026Much like Infinity War and Endgame, fans have speculated who might die in Doomsday, as it is another climactic event in the MCU. However, Johnny Storm’s absence in the new action figure line hints that he might not last until the fight between the Fantastic Four and Doom. Is he the first to die in the movie, or will there be more? Here is everything we know so far.
New Hot Toys Line Might Have Spoiled Key Death in Avengers: Doomsday
Joseph Quinn Avengers: Doomsday | Credits: Marvel StudiosToy line releases have a long history of starting rumors. Remember Lex’s armor in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice? Neither do we, because it did not happen. But the toy line for the movie gave a mech upgrade to the character, and there were all sorts of rumors about it. So, maybe toy lines are not always to be trusted.
However, Joseph Quinn’s Human Torch not being in the design poses some questions. He was present in the official The Fantastic Four: First Steps line. With his disappearance in the latest figurine, Hot Toys has sparked a lot of speculation about his future in the movie. Doomsday will definitely have some deaths, but will Johnny be the Loki of this movie? December will tell.

— Chaotic Captain 177 (@ChaoticCap17) October 2, 2026One more key moment from the released visuals of Avengers: Doomsday may support this theory. In the trailers, we see Johnny holding Franklin Richards protectively while there is fire behind him. His face is dusty, as if from a fight, and the background is quite apocalyptic. This might be a key sacrificial moment for the character, wherein he saves Franklin by giving up his life.
The most plausible explanation of this scene is that Johnny is using his fire to shield Franklin as Doom’s reality manipulation or an Incursion tears through their world, burning himself out in the process. It would also echo the comics, where Johnny Storm was killed in a massive battle during Jonathan Hickman’s run of Fantastic Four.
Who Will Die in Doomsday and Who Will Be in Secret Wars?
The cast of Avengers: Doomsday | Credits: Marvel StudiosWhile no one has been confirmed to die so far, fans know that the Russos will not let any hero go so easily (we all remember the Snap and the Blip). Avengers: Doomsday might have multiple deaths, especially if the Incursions are going to happen, because that would be truly devastating for the timeline and would lead to Doctor Doom creating Battleworld.
One of the most vocal insider reports about character deaths comes from James Mack, who claimed that five heroes will die in the film. Doomsday brings in the X-Men, the Fantastic Four, the Avengers, and multiple other characters into the fold, but Mack claimed that the majority of casualties will be faced by the X-Men and the Avengers.

Mack has also mentioned that James Marsden and Ian McKellen will return in Avengers: Secret Wars, which means that Cyclops and Magneto will survive. Others are in the open field. Much like the Blip, only characters who are killed during the Incursions will be revived in Secret Wars, and characters who will die of natural causes will remain dead.
We do not know the exact number of Marvel heroes who will die in Avengers: Doomsday and who will return for Secret Wars. But the rumor mill has many flying around, including Doctor Strange, Reed Richards, Spider-Man, Shuri, Vision, Deadpool, Wolverine, and more. December will answer all our questions.
