A 27-year-old man was seriously injured early Sunday morning in Montreal North, police say, when he was struck by a car as he exited his vehicle.

The incident took place on Léger Blvd. near Langelier Blvd., with authorities receiving 911 calls alerting them around 12:45 a.m.

Police found the man “lying on the ground with serious injuries to his upper body,” unconscious but breathing, spokesperson Johany Charland said.

The man was transported to a hospital in critical condition, but Charland said his life is no longer considered to be in danger.

The driver, a 20-year-old woman, was in shock when police arrived, but suffered no injuries.

Police believe “the driver was travelling westbound on Léger Blvd. while the victim was exiting his vehicle, which was parked on the side of the road,” Charland said. “The driver reportedly struck him and he was thrown to the ground.”

Police are not treating the incident as a criminal act, Charland said. An investigation is underway.
