Mainz 05 have announced the departure of Norwegian international Andreas Hanche-Olsen.

The 29-year-old centre-back is joining Chicago Fire FC in Major League Soccer with immediate effect.

“Andreas is a model professional and has always been very popular within the team and throughout the club," said Mainz sporting director Niko Bungert.

"We are very grateful for his commitment over the past three-and-a-half years, during which we could always rely on him. Andreas now has the opportunity to take a very exciting step by joining Chicago Fire FC in MLS and continuing his career there on a long-term contract.

“Following some good discussions, we agreed to the move and wish Andreas all the very best for his sporting and personal future in the USA.”

Hanche-Olsen joined Mainz in January 2023 and made a total of 77 appearances for the club.
