Rumors continue to swirl around the MCU’s expanding slate, with new reports suggesting that Marvel Studios may be bringing back Luke Cage. According to a recent scoop from MyTimeToShineHello, Marvel is reportedly working on a project involving Luke Cage.
While nothing has been officially confirmed, Mike Colter is expected to reprise his role, fueling speculation that the studio is revisiting its street-level heroes with a Heroes for Hire series. With the MCU steadily rebuilding its grounded New York corner, such a move would feel like a natural next step. If these reports hold true, there are a few compelling reasons why Luke Cage’s return could lead directly to Heroes for Hire.
Heroes for Hire is a Marvel superhero team, where Luke Cage and Iron Fist team up as a duo-for-hire, taking on jobs to help people in exchange for payment. The partnership blends Cage’s strength with Iron Fist’s martial arts skills, making them a unique and practical hero team.
Luke Cage’s Born Again Return Sets the Stage for Heroes for Hire
A recently leaked, and quickly deleted, behind-the-scenes photo from Daredevil: Born Again Season 3 has reignited speculation about Luke Cage’s MCU future. Shared by Mike Colter and preserved by a fan, Levi on X (formerly Twitter), the image shows him alongside Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock and Deborah Ann Woll’s Karen Page on a prison set.
With Jessica Jones already confirmed to return and rumors of other Defenders circling, the pieces for a larger reunion are falling into place. Colter has also expressed interest in coming back, noting there’s “a lot of story left to tell.” He told The Direct,
Look, I mean, here’s the thing: I have been talking to Marvel, and Jessica [Jones]’ back, and there’s a lot of story left to tell, and I just think that it’d be a shame for me not to pop back up.
If his return materializes, it could go beyond Born Again, potentially opening the door for a Heroes for Hire project, bringing Luke Cage back not just as a lone hero, but as part of a long-awaited duo.

Speaking during a 2024 interview with The Nerd Shepherd, the actor said he still sees room for growth in Danny Rand and would welcome the chance to continue the character’s journey.
“I would like to see the character continue,” he said, adding, “I would like to continue playing that character. I think there’s still a lot of room for growth, and professionally, I’m at a point where I would like to continue to grow with Iron Fist.”
Additionally, Jones also addressed the possibility of Colter and him reuniting for the Heroes for Hire project. “That would be nice,” he said, adding, “I would love to see the chemistry between Mike and me again. It’s always been great.” Finn’s remarks made it clear that a Heroes for Hire series remains high on his wishlist, positioning it as a natural and exciting next step for both characters.
MCU’s Street-Level Revival Makes Heroes for Hire a Perfect Fit

With Daredevil: Born Again leading the charge, characters like Matt Murdock, Kingpin, Punisher, and Jessica Jones have already been reintroduced into the MCU, rebuilding the grounded New York-based stories that fans have been waiting for.
Now, recent reports have only added fuel to the speculation. Insider MyTimeToShineHello has also reported that Marvel is developing a Heroes for Hire project, while new set photos from the Born Again season 3, currently filming in New York City, show Mike Colter, Finn Jones, and Krysten Ritter (Entertainment Weekly). Bringing Luke Cage and Iron Fist together would be a smooth and fitting expansion of this growing street-level universe.
