Lil Wayne says he’s marrying 23-year-old Madi Cannon after reported split

'Lollipop' rapper, 44, appears to reveal engagement to ex-girlfriend, who is younger than his daughter

Lil Wayne appears to have confirmed his engagement to Madi Cannon, 23, just months after the couple reportedly split.

The 44-year-old rapper seemed to make the announcement on Tuesday in an Instagram video congratulating fellow Hot Boy member B.G. on his engagement to Brooke Jones.

The video posted to B.G.’s Instagram account appears to show the two rappers on a FaceTime call.

“Congratulations, b—-,” Lil Wayne says to the camera before pointing over his shoulder at Cannon, who smiles and waves.

“And I’m marrying this one — this is Madison,” he says. “This is my fiancee.”

The Lollipop rapper then jokes about B.G.’s upcoming wedding, saying, “Let us know what colour we’re wearing. I’m the best man, you hear me? Love you, b—-.”

B.G. captioned the post: “My lil Brodie gave me his blessings @liltunechi.”

Social media backlash

He didn’t directly comment on Lil Wayne’s apparent engagement, but social media certainly did.

The couple’s 21-year age gap quickly became a talking point with Lil Wayne facing criticism online, according to the Irish Star.

“What kind of conversation do you have with a 23-year-old when you’re 44?” one X user wrote.

Another added, “Wayne fiance (sic) looks like a child.”

“Her being younger than Reginae will never sit right with me I don’t care,” another critic wrote, referring to Lil Wayne’s 27-year-old daughter, Reginae Carter, whom he shares with his ex-wife Antonia Johnson.

Previously denied he was tying the knot

The apparent engagement is also a little awkward considering Lil Wayne denied being engaged two months ago.

During a July livestream, the rapper addressed reports that he had proposed and insisted they weren’t true, per People.

“I would like to clear something up,” Lil Wayne said. “No, I’m not engaged. I had a beautiful thing going on with an amazing person, but, obviously, due to the validity of the temperature of today’s crazy world and culture, I considered, I don’t want to be such a burden on such an amazing person.

“So we decided to part. Sucks.”

Breakup apparently didn’t last

In May, TMZ reported that Wayne had quietly popped the question “earlier this year.” At the time, however, the outlet only identified his fiancee as a woman in her 20s from Indiana, according to Page Six.

Now, Wayne appears to have put a name and a face to that mystery woman.

Of course, large age gaps among celebrities are nothing new.

Cher, 80, is dating Alexander “A.E.” Edwards, who is 40 years younger than her. Madonna, 68, has been dating former soccer player Akeem Morris, who is 38 years younger than the pop star.

Canadian record producer David Foster, 76, is married to singer-actress Katharine McPhee, 42, a 34-year gap. Canadian songstress Celine Dion married her manager, the late Rene Angelil, when she was 26 and he was 52 — a 26-year difference.
