The Jujutsu Kaisen anime has entered the part of its story where the rules stop feeling stable, alliances become temporary, and almost every victory comes with a devastating price. Season 3, The Culling Game Part 1, began airing on January 8, 2026, adapting the opening portion of the Culling Game and ending around Chapter 181.

5 Hakari vs. Kashimo Reaches Its Climax

Manga Chapters: 186–190

Hakari and Kashimo’s battle is Jujutsu Kaisen at its most gloriously ridiculous and tactical. Hakari’s Idle Death Gamble can give him unlimited cursed energy and automatic healing for four minutes and 11 seconds after a jackpot, effectively making him impossible to kill during the bonus period. Kashimo, meanwhile, weaponizes the electrical properties of his cursed energy and possesses centuries of combat experience.

Their final exchange pushes Hakari’s immortality to its limit before he survives Kashimo’s last gambit and negotiates an alliance instead of killing him. It ranks fifth because its combat creativity is superb, but its story impact is smaller than Maki’s transformation and the tragedies ahead.

4 Maki’s Rematch With Cursed Naoya

Manga Chapters: 191–198

Maki’s battle with Cursed Naoya is less about settling an old score and more about proving that the Zenin clan could no longer define her. After the massacre that transformed her physically and emotionally, Maki confronts Naoya again in the Sakurajima Colony, where his cursed form possesses terrifying speed.

The fight ultimately culminates in Maki overcoming Naoya’s Domain Expansion and splitting his head with the Split Soul Katana. It ranks fourth because the character payoff is exceptional, but the scale and broader consequences fall short of Yuki’s battle and the two catastrophic developments above it.

3 Yuki Tsukumo’s Last Stand Against Kenjaku

Yuki Tsukumo finally gets the showcase befitting a special-grade sorcerer when she faces Kenjaku alongside Choso. Her Star Rage grants virtual mass to herself and Garuda, turning seemingly simple attacks into devastating blows, while her tactical reading of Kenjaku’s gravity technique keeps the fight unpredictable. The climax becomes genuinely horrifying when Yuki turns herself into a black hole in an attempt to take Kenjaku down with her.

It ranks third because its emotional devastation and sheer visual potential are enormous, even if its consequences are more contained than Sukuna’s takeover.

2 Sukuna Takes Over Megumi’s Body

Manga Chapters: 212–213

A few twists in Jujutsu Kaisen fundamentally alter the battlefield, like Ryomen Sukuna taking Megumi Fushiguro‘s body. After exploiting the binding vow governing his relationship with Yuji, Sukuna transfers himself into Megumi at precisely the moment the Ten Shadows user is emotionally vulnerable. Chapter 213 makes the terrifying objective clear: Sukuna had recognized Megumi’s potential and wanted the Ten Shadows Technique for himself.

This ranks below Gojo’s unsealing because it is the catastrophe that makes that confrontation necessary, but above Yuki’s final battle because its consequences reshape the series’ central conflict and turn Megumi’s greatest strength into Sukuna’s weapon.

1 Gojo Finally Breaks Free From the Prison Realm

Manga Chapters: 221

After years of waiting, Gojo’s return in Chapter 221 is exactly the kind of scene that can hijack an entire season. Hana Kurusu uses Jacob’s Ladder on the Prison Realm’s back, only for Satoru Gojo to emerge and immediately confront Kenjaku. Kenjaku had buried the Prison Realm deep beneath the Japan Trench and surrounded it with safeguards, yet even those precautions fail.

What elevates this above everything else is what follows: Gojo sees Sukuna in Megumi’s body, while his confrontation with Kenjaku sets the stage for the ultimate showdown. It ranks first because virtually every major conflict suddenly points toward one explosive return.
