Joy Behar is reportedly insistent on returning to work despite still being in pain after dislocating her shoulder, which kept her away from “The View” for nearly a month as she recovered from the accident.
The veteran television personality returned to the show on Tuesday, October 27, and was enthusiastically welcomed by her co-hosts as well as the audience, who greeted her with a round of applause.
Now, a source has revealed that while Joy Behar is determined to keep working, people close to her are worried that she may be overworking herself by returning after experiencing the “worst injury of her life.”
Joy Behar Refuses To ‘Take Any More Time Off,’ Source Says
Ron Sachs – CNP / MEGAAccording to Star Magazine, Behar’s decision to return to “The View” has sparked concerns about her health. The 84-year-old has been described as a “workaholic” and insists on not taking more time off.
A source told the publication that, “Everyone is in awe of how tough Joy is. She’s clearly still in a ton of pain, but she’s refusing to take any more time off.”
The insider explained that Behar doesn’t want to be out of the loop or let her audience down, as they want to hear what she has to say.
“She says she can’t stand being stuck on the sidelines. No doubt she’s a workaholic, but she’s also got such a sense of duty to her audience; she feels like they count on hearing her perspective on the news,” the insider added.
Behar’s colleagues and the network executives were reportedly pleased as she returned because the show is “better when she’s there.” Nevertheless, they haven’t pressured her to return and expect that she will take it easy and work “at her own pace.”
The source further points out that Behar seems to be prioritizing her work over taking time off to fully recuperate from what they described as “the worst injury of her life.”
“She’s obsessed with her job, which is wonderful … but it’s also got people close to her worried that she’s going to overdo it,” the insider concluded.
ZapatA/MEGA Behar’s return follows an injury sustained backstage at ABC Studios in late September, where she tumbled and dislocated her shoulder, leading to her nearly month-long absence from the all-female talk show.
Co-host Sunny Hostin revealed to viewers that she had the accident and was recuperating on the October 1 episode of “The View.”
Behar provided a firsthand account of her experience after she returned to the show. “I went down hard, in this building. I dislocated my shoulder. I don’t know if that’s ever happened to anybody, but it’s worse than childbirth,” she said, per Page Six.
She joked that what she went through felt like torture and, as she put it, “I would have given up names to the CIA; that kind of torture, it was bad.”

‘The View’ Co-Hosts Celebrated Joy Behar’s Return
Behar’s colleagues and audience ensured she knew she was missed when she returned, as she was welcomed to a chorus of applause and audible cheers from fans in the crowd.
The return was marked with Elton John’s 1974 hit song “The Bitch Is Back,” which played as she walked to her seat on the “Hot Topics” table arm in arm with Sara Haines, who helped her to her place on the panel.
The 84-year-old host reacted to the music, saying, “They played ‘The Bitch Is Back,’ they should’ve played ‘God Save the Queen’!”
Her co-hosts all expressed how much they missed her, with Whoopi Goldberg saying, “All jokes aside, it is, you know, we’re together a lot, and so when one of us is not around, you feel it.”
Behar appreciated all the love she was shown and later expressed how she felt. “I missed you all very much. All the people who work here are so divine. I mean, I really do miss this place when I’m not here,” she said.
ZUMAPRESS.com / MEGAWhile recovering from the terrible injury, an article indicated that producers were interested in an alleged “panel shake-up” and Behar was suggested to be exiting the show.
According to the article, there were concerns following her injury, and network executives were reportedly “looking to make the show less shrill and more inviting to a broader audience.”
However, Entertainment Weekly reported that the story was false, and a representative of the show told the outlet that “there is no truth” to the rumor.
The earlier Star source stated that, “The day will come when she has to retire, but Joy is vowing that’s a long way off, and it does seem that way.”
Joy Behar Talks About Aging Following Injury
MEGAIn an October 16 interview with Vulture, Behar opened up about her issues with aging. “It’s a pain in the –ss to be old,” she said.
“I’m 84, but I have the brain of a 30-year-old and sometimes a 10-year-old, plus I look pretty good because I have Italian skin,” Behar added.
Behar, who is officially the longest-running female talk show host, said that returning every season for the show has long since become a “habit” for her.
She compared the habit to school and explained that “you wouldn’t say to Picasso to stop painting. You can’t tell me to quit being funny.”
