The scene might have set the stage for a potential third part of the franchise. However, it also left a lot of questions circling in the minds of fans. After all, the Ortega scene has even been dubbed one of the most disturbing moments in the whole film.

The Jenna Ortega scene that left fans disturbed

Just days ago, Jenna Ortega’s Beetlejuice Beetlejuice made its way to theatres. Although horror fans were ready to watch the stories of Lydia and Astrid Deetz unfold on screen. There was one moment that left everyone with their jaws dropped. At the end of the film, Michael Keaton’s Beetlejuice is defeated, for now. However, the demon is not done messing with the 22-year-old and Winona Ryder’s character.

In a post on X, a clip revealed that the movie ended on a creepy note when Lydia had a nightmare in which her daughter was in a hospital room, ready to give birth to her first child. But when the baby is born, it turns out to be a baby Beetlejuice. The scare was enough to shoot Ryder’s character out of bed, leaving fans in shock. After watching the movie, users on X shared their thoughts on the scene.

It’s the most WTF moment of the movie. How can anyone not like it?!

Although some social media users thought the scene was hilarious, other netizens did not think so. One X user even wrote, “This is kinda disturbing to watch tbh.” The moment left all fans feeling rather different emotions, but it seems to have set the stage for the next addition to the Beetlejuice franchise.

Fans might be torn about Ortega’s scene. However, there has been no doubt about Burton’s casting choice when choosing the young star. Although her role as Astrid seems tailor-made, the truth was far from it.

Why Astrid Deetz was not written specifically for Jenna Ortega

Long before Jenna Ortega was cast in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, the actress worked closely with the screenwriters of the film. After all, she had worked with Alfred Gough and Miles Millar during her time as Wednesday and built a rather close bond. Although there was no doubt that the 22-year-old had the acting chops to pull off the role, the writers admitted to Forbes why they chose not to write the character with her in mind.

To be honest, we didn’t write [Astrid] with her in mind only because one of the things that we talked to Tim about was that we didn’t want her to feel like Wednesday nor we didn’t want her to feel like young Lydia from the first movie.

Gough explained, “So, we approached it with a different idea, that she doesn’t believe her mom, she thinks it’s bulls**t and only believes in facts and things she can see.” Although their approach to the character seemed to go off without a hitch, it was only taken to a whole new level when Ortega embodied the rebellious teen.

After all, Ortega has proved that weird, off-beat stories are where she seems to thrive. With her recent project setting the stage for yet another Beetlejuice film, fans could see her reprising her role as Astrid in the not-so-distant future.
