Evil Dead Burn is set to hit theaters on July 10, 2026, and fans want to know whether it is connected to Fede Álvarez’s rebooted Evil Dead movie in 2013. Lee Cronin’s Evil Dead Rise was promoted as a standalone sequel to Álvarez’s movie, so the burning question is whether the latest outing is a standalone sequel in the rebooted franchise.
The short answer is yes. But fans will have to understand that the Evil Dead movies don’t always follow a clean timeline. The movies are tied together by the cursed Book of the Dead and the shared world of the Deadites. Outside of these common elements, each movie is allowed to introduce new people and places while keeping the same evil at its center.
Evil Dead Burn‘s most obvious link is to 2023’s Evil Dead Rise. Fans spotted a Deadite by a lake in the trailer who looks a lot like Jessica, the possessed woman from that film’s opening scene, hinting she may set off the horror in this installment.
However, there are nods to Álvarez’s reboot too in the trailer of Evil Dead Burn. Eagle-eyed viewers noticed a journal in the trailer featuring a news clipping about four bodies found in a cabin fire. They connected it to the brutal events from the 2013 movie.

What Evil Dead Burn Is About?
Souheila Yacoub in a still from Evil Dead Burn | Credits: Warner Bros. PicturesEvil Dead Burn is the sixth installment in Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead film series and promises to be the scariest of the three modern-era titles. Sébastien Vaniček, who helmed the critically acclaimed French horror movie Vermines (Infested), is directing the new installment. The director’s arthouse debut is exactly the kind of credibility that makes viewers excited for this outing.
Souheila Yacoub leads the cast, with supporting performances from Hunter Doohan, Luciane Buchanan, Tandi Wright, and George Pullar. From the trailers, it appears that the movie will be a demonic mayhem. According to the synopsis, the movie follows a widow Alice, played by Yacoub, seeking solace with her in-laws when the Deadites unleash carnage on this family.
Interestingly, Lee Cronin, who directed Evil Dead Rise, was first in line to make this movie but passed on it to direct The Mummy, wanting a fresh challenge instead. The movie appears to keep the series’ love of brutal, inventive gore.
Early Reactions Suggest Evil Dead Burn Is the Scariest in the Franchise

This movie might be the nastiest Evil Dead yet. Critics who caught it praised Sébastien Vaniček’s confident & brutal style and the film’s willingness to push things to the edge.
Bill Bria of /Film took to X to praise the film, sharing, “Mean, nasty, & quite possibly the most brutal film in the series? That’s #EvilDeadBurn, baby!” She further praised the director for bringing “a New French Extremity edge to the Deadites.”
Perri Nemiroff of Collider was impressed too, praising Vaniček in her review. She wrote on X, “He embraces the traditional ‘Evil Dead’ style and then packs his film to the brim with downright brutal and wildly creative set pieces — and every single one of them is an absolute banger. EVERY SINGLE ONE.”
Film critic Peter Gray shared that while the movie adheres to the franchise’s formula, it has a personality of its own. He wrote on X, “It doesn’t stray from the series formula, but its dark humour, hard R rating, and some killer tracking and one shots give it personality. I winced and had a ball!”
Not everyone was fully sold. An X review from @TheNerdsofColor was mixed, with the author calling it “gloriously gory good time,” but adding that it “doesn’t ‘Rise’ up to its predecessor.” Their issues also included “too long and incoherent at times.” Still, the overall mood is clear. For fans who love the franchise at its meanest and bloodiest, Evil Dead Burn looks set to deliver.
