Resources are the backbone of progression in Palworld, allowing you to craft stronger gear, unlock new technologies, and prepare for tougher encounters. While materials like Wood, Stone, and Ore are easy to gather or automate, Leather remains one of the most valuable crafting resources throughout the game.
It is required for crafting armor, saddles, feed bags, and several pieces of Pal equipment, making it essential from the early game well into the later stages. Since Leather can’t be produced at your base, knowing the fastest ways to collect it will save you plenty of time.

Unlike many crafting materials, Leather does not come from gathering nodes or production buildings. Instead, it is obtained by capturing, defeating, or butchering specific Pals (even the new ones introduced with 1.0) that naturally drop the resource. If you’re in a hurry, you can also purchase Leather from Wandering Merchants for 150 Gold per piece, although this can become expensive if you need large quantities.
For new players, the easiest Leather-dropping Pals are found around the Plateau of Beginnings and nearby regions. Some of the best early-game options include Fuack, Foxparks, Vixy, Direhowl, Eikthyrdeer, Melpaca, Rushoar, Tombat, Nox, Galeclaw, and Fuddler.
These Pals are relatively easy to defeat or capture and respawn frequently, making them reliable sources of Leather. Among them, Fuack is especially worthwhile because it also drops Pal Fluids, another important crafting material used for several base upgrades.
As you progress into higher-level areas, stronger Pals such as Mammorest, Fenglope, Katress, Mossanda, Pyrin, Verdash, Kitsun, and Grizzbolt also provide Leather, allowing you to gather larger amounts while farming other valuable resources at the same time.
Pro Tips for Farming Leather in Palworld
Your next armor upgrade starts with a Leather hunt. | Credits: PocketpairThe fastest way to farm Leather is by capturing Leather-dropping Pals instead of simply defeating them. Once you’ve unlocked the Meat Cleaver, you can butcher captured Pals for an additional guaranteed Leather drop, effectively doubling your rewards from a single encounter. This method is far more efficient than only hunting wild Pals and is ideal when you need Leather for multiple crafting projects.
For early-game farming, stick to routes around the Plateau of Beginnings, the Small Settlement, and nearby forests where Fuack, Vixy, Direhowl, and Rushoar spawn in large numbers. Carry plenty of Pal Spheres so you can capture as many Pals as possible during each farming run.
If you don’t want to spend time hunting, merchants offer a quick alternative. Buying Leather is useful when you only need a small amount to finish an armor set or craft a saddle, but farming remains the more economical option in the long run.
Finally, plan your farming around multiple resources. For example, targeting Fuack lets you collect both Leather and Pal Fluids simultaneously, while hunting stronger Pals later in the game rewards additional crafting materials alongside Leather. Combining resource farms like this minimizes travel time and helps you progress much faster through Palworld’s technology tree.
