The world of Mark Grayson on Prime Video is expanding far beyond the panels of the original Image Comics. With season 5 on the way, creator Robert Kirkman revealed in a new interview with The Direct that the future seasons of Invincible will deviate from the original comics a bit, incorporating more ideas while keeping the original narrative ongoing.
Kirkman also revealed that the writers have no shortage of ideas, which will be incorporated in future seasons if suitable. Here is everything we know about the massive creative shifts coming to Invincible Season 5 and beyond.
Invincible Future Seasons Will Have More “Side Quests”
For years, Invincible has been praised for its faithful adaptation of the source material. Rather than a literal page-to-screen recreation, the writers and creators have handpicked materials from different comic storylines and made them unique to their TV adaptation.
While this will continue in the upcoming seasons, Robert Kirkman told The Direct that the show will begin to incorporate significant original storylines as well.
I mean, any lack of new storylines in the television show is not due to a dearth of ideas from the writers. The writers on the show have tons of ideas, and so, yeah, you can expect more side quests and things that will be working their way into the overall narrative of the show as we go on, just because it’s exciting to us and it’s a fun thing to do.
The creator also talked about how the team has always explored the vast Invincible universe and revamped it for modern television rather than picking them up straight from the source. The inclusion of new content, as co-showrunner Simon Racioppa added, will be organic in the way that every episode will be important.
Since each season only has about eight episodes, the minds behind the show want every episode to serve a purpose in Mark Grayson’s journey while also continuing the overall narrative.
Although the duo did not tease what they are looking forward to incorporating or introducing, Season 5 will likely serve as a vehicle for such opportunities. The goal here is to ensure that fans, including die-hard comic book fans, are genuinely surprised as well as entertained.
This also means that key character fates, the order of certain planetary battles, and even the ultimate endgame could shift to better fit the modern audience and television pacing.
When Will Invincible Season 5 Premiere?
A still from the show | Credits: Prime VideoInvincible Season 4 completed its run on April 22, 2026, and the finale left many cliffhangers. While a fifth season has already been renewed (via Deadline), the question is, when will it premiere?
Unfortunately, a release date has not been confirmed by Prime Video. Recently, in a March 2026 interview with Collider, creator Robert Kirkman revealed that they are “getting final animation back and doing retakes and automatic dialogue replacement.”
The end of production is already underway, with final touches being done. With post-production already well underway, it won’t be long before the fifth season is released. Yet, Kirkman did remark that while they cannot pinpoint the month, the goal is to continue with the general pattern and likely have the release next year. Kirkman also stated that he would love to do 10 seasons of the show.
Considering the above statements, it is likely that Season 5 of Invincible will premiere between January and April 2027. A regular pattern will keep the momentum running for the increasingly complex narrative.
