Spoiler Alert !!!

This article contains spoilers for Invincible.

An Invincible fan animation of Grand Regent Thragg fighting Battle Beast has been making the rounds on YouTube. The clip, only fifty seconds long, has managed to garner upwards of 330,000 views on the platform as of this article’s writing. Those who have only seen the show (and have managed to stay unspoiled online) might see this as a fan matchup between two of the biggest heavyweights in the Invincible Universe. However, comic fans know that the fight actually happens in the comics and could receive the official animation treatment in the next couple of seasons.

The fight is one of the high points of the series, even more so than Mark v/s Conquest. Especially given the circumstances surrounding the encounter, Battle Beast v/s Thragg is likely going to be the highlight of the season that it is adapted in. However, this doesn’t change the fact that fan expectations, which were already pretty high, have now skyrocketed. This has also brought forward the problem that has plagued Invincible since Season 1 wrapped up: the animation.

The Animation Is Far From a Fan Match-Up

There are many who are fascinated by the animated clip, which depicts Grand Regent Thragg duking it out in a no-holds-barred fight with Battle Beast. This is a confrontation ripped straight from the comics.

Grand Regent Thragg has been exiled from his empire after the revelation that Nolan Grayson is the heir to Argall, the emperor of the Viltrumites, murdered by Thaedus. This prompts Thragg to travel to Thraxa, where he enslaves the entire population single-handedly, and begins a breeding program where he sires an entire army of half-bred children, who would age like Oliver, and be numerous in number.

Allen, now leading the Coalition of Planets, would immediately dispatch Battle Beast to confront Thragg, who would now be alone, and not aided by his Viltrumite cohorts. However, Thragg would be able to best Battle Beast, killing him, and then wearing his fur like a cape. This would also feature in one of the most iconic covers of the Invincible comic.

Invincible Still Has At Least A Season Before It Adapts Battle Beast v/s Thragg

Invincible Season 4 focused on the Viltrumite War. The Season followed Allen, Mark, and Nolan, preparing in one way or another to face the Viltrumites, aided by the Coalition of Planets. While it is safe to say that the Coalition lost the war, Season 5 is going to open on Earth, with the focus on Earth, with the Viltrumites now having mingled with Earthlings. Thragg’s orders to the entire population are to interbreed to produce offspring similar to Mark, who are as strong and stable as full-blooded Viltrumites.

Season 5 of the story is likely going to explore the Scourge Virus and Mark and Nolan’s heritage. There is also the entire story with Dinosaurus to figure into the coming season, which is going to close out an important era in Invincible’s life, while opening a chapter that is carried forward to the very end of the story.

Season 5 is also going to give the studios working behind the scenes slightly more time to flesh out the animated fight between Thragg and Battle Beast. Given that some scenes from the show have received a lot of flak for the quality of animation. While the show has not disappointed with key fights so far, the level of scrutiny on the setpiece will be undeniable.
