Not much was changed in writer-director Robert Eggers’ 2024 remake of Nosferatu, which was adapted from the 1922 silent vampire film, based on Dracula by Bram Stoker. But yes, the one thing that was beyond recognition was Bill Skarsgård’s appearance as the vampire, Count Orlok.

Covered in prosthetics from head to toe, the Swedish actor famously known for IT, revealed how difficult it was for him to move and perform the role. But the main difficulty originated during his infamous s*x scene with Lily-Rose Depp in the final moments of the film. So much so that Skarsgård shared his thoughts from when they were filming the disturbing sequence.

Bill Skarsgård reflected on his full-body prosthetics for his vampiric transformation

Although Bill Skarsgård is known for donning prosthetics for his spine-chilling role as Pennywise in IT, he simply took things to the next level when it came to Robert EggersNosferatu. Transforming into the titular vampire Count Orlok, the actor underwent full-body prosthetics that ended up making him virtually unrecognizable.

Therefore, reflecting on the impressive element of David White’s prosthetic makeup for Nosferatu, Bill Skarsgård told Parade how it took him hours to apply the makeup each day and reflected on the painful process of acting in it. According to Skarsgård, while the full prosthetics took six hours to apply, it was the sense of privacy that he needed to shed, before that.

It’s just uncomfortable. And any sense of privacy goes out the window. You become very close with the team that’s applying this makeup. They’re really getting up in there with a brush in your a*s crack. They become your little safe space.

But while it took him 6 hours to put on the make-up, Bill Skarsgård revealed the ultimate difficulty would begin during filming. Admitting how arduous it was to perform in head-to-toe prosthetics, the actor then reflected on one particular scene from Robert Eggers’ 2924 remake. And it’s none other than the final s*x scene with Lily-Rose Depp.

Speaking with the outlet, while Bill Skarsgård reflected on the tiring journey of putting on the prosthetics each day and then filming the scenes in what seemed like a hot latex bodysuit, he then mentioned how difficult it was to perform the disturbing s*x scene with Lily-Rose Depp. But, considering how Skarsgård is known for losing himself in his characters, the actor reflected on his honest thoughts from filming.

Recalling when the cameras began rolling, how he was engulfed in his character as Count Orlok, Bill Skarsgård shared his honest confessions from the set. Playing the role of the titular vampire, the actor mentioned his deep-seated desire to devour Lily-Rose Depp in that disturbing sequence, as Orlok would have actually done to Ellen Hutter.

I don’t know her perspective on, ‘I’m going to kiss this monster’. But for me, when we shot, I was Orlok, and I really, really, really wanted to devour her.

In the end, it is Bill Skarsgård’s level of intensity and immersion into his role that transforms his films into popular hits. It’s his ability to tap into his character’s psyche and bring out the complexities of their characters in raw, unsettling moments that delivers authenticity and depth. And that’s exactly what he did with Robert Eggers’ 2024 remake, Nosferatu.
