During a talk show appearance to promote Shrinking season 2, Ford opened up about some of his earlier struggles revealing one of his first jobs. However, Ford admitted that he was so bad at his job that he not only injured himself on the very first day but also ended up getting fired. Here is what Ford said about his ill-fated stint at his very first job.

Harrison Ford Talked About Working as a Cook and Getting Fired

Harrison Ford became one of the most popular actors of all time with stints in the Star Wars and Indiana Jones franchises, establishing himself as a leading man in the 1980s. However, before gaining fame, critical acclaim, and commercial success, Ford worked as a cook for a total of one day.

During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Ford spoke to the host about his first job – working as a cook at a hospital. The veteran actor revealed during the conversation that he had no idea what he said to get the job, implying he lied about his cooking skills.

They gave me a knife on a bunch of carrots and I cut this part of my finger off within minutes.

Ford made the above comment, suggesting that he cut off a part of his index finger while doing the very first task he was assigned as a cook.

Thankfully, the injury wasn’t severe and Ford was stitched up at the hospital itself. However, his poor cooking skills were now evident to the staff. As a result, Ford was dismissed from his very first job in a matter of hours on the same day he had joined it. Nonetheless, Ford eventually found success as an actor and the world is a better place with Ford as Han Solo and Indiana Jones.

Harrison Ford Revealed the Only Two Actors He Felt Intimidated Working With

During the same conversation, Ford also spoke about his work on the comedy series Shrinking, which will return with its second season soon. In the series, Ford stars alongside Jason Segel. When Kimmel revealed that Segel confessed to being intimidated by working with Ford, the host asked the veteran actor if he ever faced a similar situation.

In response, Ford revealed that he was intimidated while working with the legendary Sir Alec Guinness and former James Bond star Sean Connery. However, Ford jokingly stated that neither of the two actors, who were his seniors, did anything to ease his anxiety over sharing the screen with them.

Alec Guinness did. He tried to find…help me find an apartment when I first came to London to make Star Wars.

Ford made the above statement, reflecting on the kindness Guinness showed him during the earlier stages of his career. The Captain America 4 star concluded the anecdote by mentioning that both Guinness and Connery were extremely sweet to him.

Ford worked with the former in the Star Wars franchise, where Guinness played the iconic Obi-Wan Kenobi. Ford and Connery played onscreen father and son in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, the third installment of Ford’s hit action-adventure franchise.

Shrinking is streaming on Apple TV+, with season 2 premiering on October 16, 2024.
