Hunter Schafer Complete Dating History: All We Know About Euphoria Star’s Relationships

Hunter Schafer became a fan-favorite after portraying a transgender teenager, Jules Vaughn, in HBO’s Euphoria. She is currently making an appearance on the third season of the show, where her character has a complicated on-and-off relationship with Zendaya‘s Rue Bennett.

In real life, a few of Schafer’s relationships are known to fans, including the high-profile relationship with her co-star from the show, Dominic Fike. Most recently, one of her exes, with whom she is still friends, made their acting debut on Euphoria Season 3.

Schafer also made a name for herself with other projects like The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes and Cuckoo. She is also a model and the ambassador for Prada, appearing in several commercials. Here’s a breakdown of three of her known relationships.

Rosalía (2019)

The singer, who made her acting debut in the third season of Euphoria as the stripper Magick, was romantically linked to Schafer in 2019. The relationship wasn’t revealed publicly until 2024, when Schafer brought it up during an interview with GQ. She confirmed that she and Rosalía dated for over five months in 2019.

Schafer addressed the fan speculations after they were spotted together on multiple occasions at the time. She further shared that she was happy to share about this past relationship, saying, “It’s something I’m happy to share. And I think she feels that way too.” Schafer and Rosalía remain good friends, with the actress sharing, “She’s family no matter what.”

Massima Desire (2020)

Hunter Schafer was also romantically linked to fellow model and trans activist Massima Desire. While neither Schafer nor Desire publicly confirmed such a relationship, it didn’t stop fans from sharing photos of the two and shipping them together.

While covering Schafer and Fike’s relationship in 2022, PEOPLE reported that Schafer and Desire were romantically involved in late 2020.

Dominic Fike (2021—2023)

Dominic Fike and Hunter Schafer’s relationship began on the sets of Euphoria, although we have little clue as to when they started dating. In January 2022, several Deuxmoi blind items were posted about Fike and Schafer. According to one, they were seen “kissing” and “dancing” in a restaurant (via Seventeen). Another claimed that they got back together after he cheated on her on multiple occasions, further claiming that he had “slowly been wearing her down” (via r/Fauxmoi).

On January 16, 2022, they were photographed exiting the Nice Guy restaurant in West Hollywood (via E!Online). Two weeks later, they were seen holding hands during another appearance in West Hollywood (via Daily Mail). Fike confirmed the relationship in February 2022 when he shared a pic of them kissing and wished her a happy birthday.

A month later, they appeared in style in public when they made their red carpet debut at Vanity Fair’s Oscars after-party. They both looked incredible and were spotted together with Zendaya and other stars at the party.

Fike addressed the relationship for the first time during an interview with GQ in May 2022. He talked about how their relationship blossomed almost immediately on the set of Euphoria. He shared:

In those moments, your relationship is accelerated because you’re so vulnerable with someone, immediately. Which usually takes a long time. Some people fall in love, like, f**king months after they meet or years after. We developed an attraction—it sped it up so fast. We just really got to know each other so quickly.

Hunter’s first public comment on the relationship came a year after they were first publicly linked. In February 2023, she told Elle UK that she and Fike are “a safety net for one another.” She further talked about the efforts they had to put in to upkeep their relationship, especially in Hollywood, but added, “But, to me, it’s deeply worth it.”

The relationship seemingly ended some time before July 2023. Fike shared during an interview with Zane Lowe for Apple Music that he was “done being in relationships right now.” He wasn’t ready to go into details of his breakup, but dismissed the idea that things would get awkward between him and Schafer on the set for the third season. During an interview with the LA Times for a profile the same month, he talked about his relationship in the past tense. He shared:

When I had a girlfriend, we’d sleep over here. I could make music around her, which was crazy. I was looking through songs the other day and found one that I made with her. I was like, ‘Man, that was so cool.’ But the fact of me saying that—of being uncomfortable being alone—that’s a bad thing. So I decided to just be alone for a while.

Schafer addressed the breakup for the first time in April 2024 during an interview with GQ. She shared, “I’m still in some ways healing from the last thing,” adding that she wasn’t ready to jump into another relationship. She didn’t reveal a reason for the split until a few months later, when she opened up with Alex Cooper on the Call Her Daddy podcast. She shared:

It’s part of why the relationship ended, is I got cheated on for the first time. He’s talked about this, too—in his songs, he writes about it—so it’s fine to be talking about it today and it’s part of my truth. But that fundamentally changed me as a person. And it was this whole process of realizing that cheating has nothing to do with you at all. It has everything to do with that person and whatever kind of pain they’re in, or whatever they’re dealing with.

However, she didn’t want to dive into the whole thing, sharing that she wanted to keep it between them and protect it. Schafer hasn’t been in a publicly known relationship ever since ending things with Fike in 2023.

Hunter Schafer’s Transitioning Journey

Hunter Schafer’s transitioning journey began long before Hollywood. She transitioned during her freshman year of high school, with the help of two supportive parents: Katy and Mac Schafer. In 2016, she shared with WUNC, “I’ve always had this persistent need for femininity and expressing that—like ever since I was a teeny, tiny toddler.”

She further shared that she came out to her parents as gay in seventh grade, adding that they began to understand her s*xual orientation at the time. However, she added, “But gender identity was still a very separate thing from that.” She suffered from gender dysphoria when she began to develop male s*x characteristics. It took some more time and a few open-minded friends before Schafer began her physical transition.

She is an LGBT rights activist and was named as the youngest plaintiff in the ACLU’s lawsuit, Carcaño v. McCrory, against North Carolina’s bill HB2 (via myfox8.com). For her activism against the bill to prevent trans people from using the bathroom corresponding to their gender identity, she was named in Teen Vogue‘s “21 Under 21” list.

However, the struggles were far from over, especially after the Trump administration’s executive order declaring only two genders (via BBC). In February 2025, she took to TikTok to reveal that her newly issued passport listed her gender as “male.” She further shared in the video, “Trans people are beautiful. We are never going to stop existing. I’m never gonna stop being trans.”

As Schafer continues to fight her battles, fans will never stop supporting her. They are already celebrating her return to Euphoria Season 3 and her character resuming the relationship with Rue Bennett.
