Graveyard Keeper brings science to managing a medieval cemetery with Science Points, an essential resource that you need to research items and level up your Technology Tree to unlock more Tech and embrace the spirit of capitalism.
It’s easily accessible early in the game, but don’t let it fool you, as you need to jump through some hoops to have a steady supply of Science. It becomes truly useful when you pair it with another religious resource, so let’s start digging.

Firstly, you need to progress the Bishop’s quest line far enough to unlock the Church in Graveyard Keeper. Unlocking the Church will give you access to the Alchemy Lab in the basement, where you’ll find the Study Table.
After accessing the Church, you need to craft the Church Workbench, as you’ll use this device primarily to craft Pigskin Paper and Clean Paper, essential for getting Science Points in Graveyard Keeper. Once you’ve unlocked both, follow the steps below to start crafting:
- Extract 1x Skin from a Human Corpse at the Autopsy Table.
- Then, use the Church Workbench to turn Skin into Pigskin Paper, which costs 5 Energy (1x Skin crafts 4x Pigskin Paper)
- Next, use 1x Pigskin Paper to craft 4x Clean Paper at the Church Workbench.
- Lastly, use the Study Table to decompose the Clean Paper into Science Points. (1x Clean Paper crafts 2x Science Points)
Alternatively, you can also purchase 2x Clean Paper directly from the Astrologer at the Lighthouse at Sealight for 1x Silver Coin. However, Pigskin Paper is more economical, viable, and easily accessible when you’re starting your digging journey early in Graveyard Keeper.
If you’re unaware of how to craft the Church Workbench in the Alchemy Lab, here’s a list of the materials required:
- 10x Nails
- 9x Flitch
- 4x Complex Iron Parts
To unlock the Church Workbench Blueprint, you need the Paper Crafting Technology with 10 Technology Points. You require the Research Technology before having the ability to unlock the Paper Crafting Tech, but don’t worry, as it automatically unlocks after you interact with the Bishop to reopen the Church.
With more progression in Graveyard Keeper, you’ll unlock new ways to earn Science Points from Notes, Books, Chapters, and Lens, but this is the quickest and easiest way to obtain them since you’ll have a plethora of Human Corpses to extract Skin from and start the crafting process.
What Are Science Points Used for in Graveyard Keeper?
Combine Faith and Science to study items! | Credits: LifeByLacey via YouTubeScience Points, also known as Science, are required to study items and perform research at the Study Table in the Church basement in Graveyard Keeper. They aren’t stored in your inventory, but are consumed when you study or research an item in the game.
You need both Science and Faith together to study a single item. Studying items rewards Blue Technology Points, which are extremely useful in unlocking new Skills in the Technology Tree. With that said, you can easily obtain Faith by holding Sermons on Sunday or get them occasionally at random by holding Confessionals.
For starters, Sermons are unlocked as a part of Graveyard Keeper’s main story progression after having a Graveyard Rating of 5 or higher and speaking to the Bishop on Sunday. When you study an item, you obtain a one-time reward of Blue Technology Points, making this the easiest way to earn them.
However, you can study items only once, and specific items are restricted from study or research. Even so, this is a great way for beginners to start earning Blue Technology Points and building up their Technology Tree Skills.
