Firstly, make sure you have a map; otherwise, it’ll take you considerable time to locate Cohsel. With the map in your possession, make sure you have the following items before you begin your search to find Cohsel:
- 5x Kingstide Algae (dive inside lakes and rivers to find purple algae)
- 3x Wolf’s Skin (purchase from Cavalorn, located west of the Old Camp)
- 2x Leather Strips (Fisk at the Old Camp sells this item)
Head to the main exit of the Old Camp and go left. Keep following this path until you reach the crossroads, then head right and take the lower path. Continue along this path, and you’ll pass a hut and a broken log on the right side. After this, you’ll need to go left and head up the hill, and you’ll find a hut with a Scavenger inside a stable and a Wolf called Dandy resting near the entrance. Whatever you do, don’t attack Dandy or the Scavenger.
Head inside, and you’ll find Cohsel. Speak to him, exhaust all the dialogue options, and then ask him about the Scavengers. He will outright refuse you, so keep asking him about it until he gives up and asks you to earn the Scavenger by getting him the items we mentioned earlier. If you haven’t obtained them yet, do that, and then return to Cohsel. Return to Camp and wait for a full in-game day.
Once you’re ready, return to Cohsel and ask him if the Scavenger’s ready. He’ll tell you that the mount is ready to be yours. With the Beak Performance side quest now completed, you’ll not only get the Scavenger Mount, but also receive a Scavenger Whistle and learn the Riding Skill. If you’re a beginner in Gothic 1 Remake, one of your priorities should be unlocking this Mount for a strong start and faster exploration.
Tips to Ride the Scavenger Mount in Gothic 1 Remake
You won’t be able to fight while riding the Scavenger! | Credits: Alkimia InteractiveCall your Scavenger using the Scavenger Whistle whenever you require it in Gothic 1 Remake. However, your Mount won’t be able to take you everywhere as it cannot be used inside Caves, Cities, and Camps. It still has plenty of uses, the most notable being the ability to get you anywhere much faster. It sure does beat normally walking from point A to B.
Another limitation that you’ll face while riding your Scavenger is that you won’t be able to fight while riding it, even with the best starting weapons. So we recommend you avoid battles while you’re on your mount and return later to clean up the mess, since the risk of killing your Scavenger is far too high.
But if you really want to enhance your overall exploration in Gothic 1 Remake, then you should get the Scavenger as soon as possible. Plus, you can pet your mount by getting off it and pressing F, so that’s an advantage in itself.
