This article contains spoiler for Netflix’s limited thriller series His & Hers!
Netflix’s limited thriller series His & Hers is set in the quiet town of Dahlonega, where a shocking murder pulls journalist Anna Harper back into a world she once walked away from. From the beginning, Lexy Jones stands out as Anna’s professional rival.
Lexy replaced Anna at the news network when Anna disappeared for nearly a year following a personal tragedy. When Anna returns and asks her boss for a field reporting job, she is clearly resentful of Lexy and even insists on taking Lexy’s husband, Richard, with her to cover the Dahlonega murder.
Anna’s dislike for Lexy becomes increasingly obvious. While staying in Dahlonega, Anna and Richard sleep together at the hotel. As the investigation continues, three women connected to Anna’s past, Rachel, Helen, and Zoe, are brutally murdered. The case grows darker, and suspicion begins to form around people from Anna’s old school days.
Things take a dramatic turn when Anna (Tessa Thompson) and Richard arrive at a lake house owned by Lexy. While looking at family photos, Anna realizes that Lexy is actually Catherine Kelly, a former school friend who had been deeply wronged years earlier. Anna begins to believe that Lexy killed Rachel, Helen, and Zoe as revenge and may now be planning to kill her, too.

At the same time, Detective Priya uncovers that Rachel and Helen had been blackmailing Lexy over her sister Andrea’s death. It leads Priya to the same conclusion: Lexy is Catherine, and she is the killer.
A violent confrontation follows at the lake house. During the chaos, Lexy grabs a gun and points it at Anna. Jack rushes in to protect Anna, but before anything else can happen, Priya arrives with the police and shoots Lexy.
Later, Anna tells Jack that Lexy was taking revenge for what happened at her 16th birthday, where Rachel, Zoe, and Helen had planned to assault Catherine in the woods during Anna’s birthday.
Only later does the truth emerge. Lexy was not the real killer. She had been framed, and the real murderer had carefully deceived everyone from the beginning, using Lexy as the final distraction.
Who Really Was the Killer in His & Hers?
After the chaos of six episodes and three brutal murders, the finale of His & Hers reveals that the real killer is Anna’s mother, Alice. Throughout the series, Alice avoids suspicion by appearing as a frail elderly woman suffering from dementia. Her behavior seems harmless and confusing, allowing her to remain invisible while the investigation unfolds around her.
In the final episode, Alice confesses to everything through a letter she leaves for Anna. In it, she explains what she did and why. After Anna left town following the death of her daughter, Alice was left alone and heartbroken.
During that time, she began watching old videotapes she found among Anna’s belongings. Most of them showed a young Anna reading the news, but one tape stood out; it was from Anna’s 16th birthday.
The footage shows Anna celebrating with Rachel, Zoe, Helen, and Catherine before they head into the woods. At first, the girls are laughing and having fun. Later, a group of older boys joins them. As the night goes on, the boys begin to assault Catherine.
Anna steps in, confronts them, and helps Catherine escape. But as Catherine runs away, the boys turn on Anna. She is assaulted while screaming for help, as Rachel, Zoe, and Helen sit nearby and do nothing. Watching the tape fills Alice with rage. She realizes what her daughter endured and how completely she was betrayed.
Alice already knew about Rachel’s affair with Jack, and when the opportunity came, she waited for the right moment. After Jack leaves Rachel in the woods, Alice attacks Rachel and stabs her to death. She later kills Helen and Zoe with the same cold precision, taking revenge for what they allowed to happen to Anna.
Throughout it all, Alice pretends to be confused and unwell, using the appearance of dementia to avoid suspicion. In the end, her plan succeeds. The murders bring Anna back into her life, allowing Alice to reclaim the relationship she thought she had lost, no matter the cost.
What Happened Between Anna and her Friends?
Anna’s shared past with Rachel, Helen, Zoe, and Catherine is revealed through a series of flashbacks throughout His & Hers. The story begins when Anna joins St. Hilary School, where Rachel, Zoe, and Helen already form a close-knit group.
Rachel recognizes Anna’s mother, Alice, mentioning that she comes to clean her house. Despite this, the girls allow Anna to join their circle. As Anna grows closer to them, they notice another girl at school, Catherine, and ask Anna to invite her to sit with them.

Rachel returns with two glasses of Coke, spills one on purpose, and offers Catherine the other. When Catherine says it tastes strange, Rachel publicly humiliates her by revealing that she had mixed urine into the drink.
Later, Rachel pretends to make peace with Catherine and invites her to Anna’s birthday party. That night, after some time in the woods, Rachel and the others invite two older boys to join them.
They give Rachel money and then approach Catherine. When they attempt to assault her, Anna steps in, confronts them, and helps Catherine escape. However, once Catherine runs away, the men turn on Anna and assault her while Rachel, Helen, and Zoe watch without intervening.
The final episode reveals that Catherine later changes her name to Lexy. Years earlier, she caused her sister Andrea’s death by emptying her inhaler after Andrea mocked her weight. Over time, Catherine loses weight, reinvents herself, marries Richard, and becomes Lexy Jones.
While Anna fails to recognize her, Alice identifies Lexy from watching her on the news. While planning revenge against Rachel, Helen, and Zoe, Alice also frames Lexy, planting evidence at the Kelly lake house, to punish her for running away and leaving Anna behind that night.
How Did Jack and Anna’s Marriage Fall Apart?
At the heart of His & Hers is the story of Jack and Anna, an estranged couple brought together again while investigating the murders of Rachel and Helen. When the series begins, the two clearly avoid talking about their relationship, and there is obvious tension between them. As the story unfolds, the show slowly reveals what truly broke their marriage.
Through flashbacks, we see Jack and Anna as a happy couple, excitedly looking at their first home and expecting their first child. Their happiness, however, does not last. One year before the events of the series, the couple leaves their infant daughter, Charlotte Alice Harper, in Alice’s care for the night. When they return, they find that Charlotte has died in her sleep.

Unable to process her pain, Anna leaves town without explanation. Jack searches for her and, in the process, loses his job in Atlanta, but he never manages to find her.
When Anna eventually returns to Dahlonega, she visits Charlotte’s grave on the anniversary of her death. There, she sees Jack with Rachel. The moment plants doubt in her mind, it later leads her to suspect Jack’s involvement in Rachel’s murder.
At the same time, Jack reviews cemetery security footage and sees Anna at the grave that night, causing him to briefly suspect her as well. Their shared grief, mistrust, and guilt complicate the investigation.
By the series finale, Jack is devastated when he finds his sister Zoe dead in her home. As he struggles to process the loss, he receives a frantic call from Anna, who shares her suspicions about Lexy and urges him to come to the lake house as soon as possible.
Before Jack can leave, he is confronted by Priya, who has grown increasingly suspicious of his behavior throughout the investigation. She arrives to question him, but Jack manages to escape the encounter and races to the lake house.
He arrives just in time to protect Anna during the violent confrontation that unfolds there. The experience deepens their connection, bringing them closer than ever after months of grief, distance, and mistrust.
Do Jack and Anna Get Back Together in His & Hers?
Though His & Hers begins with a deeply damaged relationship between Jack and Anna, the estranged married couple finds a sense of stability by the series finale. Episode 6 flashes forward to one year after Lexy is shot and killed, showing how their lives have changed.
Anna and Jack are back together, and Anna has returned to her job at the news network. The couple is expecting a baby and has also adopted Zoe’s daughter and Jack’s niece, Meg. They are now living together in a beautiful home in Atlanta, seemingly far removed from the chaos that once surrounded them.

Then you really see how capable this couple can be.” The show ends with Anna reading her mother’s confessional letter.
Despite this hopeful ending, His & Hers leaves several secrets unresolved. Anna never tells Jack what truly happened in the woods on her 16th birthday, nor does she reveal that her mother was the one who murdered his sister, Zoe.
Bernthal has admitted he would prefer that Jack never learns the truth. “I don’t want Jack to find out,” the actor said in an interview with Netflix. Tessa Thompson has also noted that both Jack and Anna continue to keep things from one another.
