Nintendo is stirring the leaks and rumors pot once again, as a new report hints at a possible Nintendo Switch 2 OLED. A newly discovered product code hidden inside the company’s Account Portal has gotten fans thinking that an unannounced Switch 2 revision is already in the works.
I think I've discovered something interesting, but I have no idea what it implies: On Nintendo's Account Portal, there's an unused model code under the name "OSM". (The Switch 2's model code is BEE.) The portal has images for each Switch model, and requesting OSM returns an image of a Switch 2.
Given that the Switch 2 is barely seven months old, the idea of a Switch 2 OLED or an alternate model seems a bit premature. So what exactly does this new report mean? And could these theories be true?
An “OSM” Code Found Online Might Hint at Switch 2 OLED
Bluesky user dootsky.re noticed and pointed out an unused product code labeled “OSM” inside Nintendo’s Account Portal earlier this week. And when they manually entered the code, it generated a valid system icon that looks very similar to the Switch 2.
For the people speculating about OSM being a switch 2 model: nobody knows what the heck it is! For the Switch system family, the original model name was HAC and its revisions/extra models were HAD, HDH, and HEG. The Switch 2 is obviously BEE, as I'd said before. So OSM doesn't line up with either 🤔
— sky :3 (@dootsky.re) January 16, 2026 at 9:02 AMNintendo has previously used internal three-letter identifiers for its hardware. The original Switch launched under “HAC,” the Lite used “HDH,” and the OLED revision was known as “HEG.” The Switch 2 itself, which launched on June 5, 2025, uses the code “BEE.”
So what does “OSM” mean in this context? Especially considering random strings entered into the portal return error messages instead of console imagery. On top of that, some users discovered archived site data suggesting that the OSM entry was first added between September 9 and September 16, 2025.
For context, that was just a few months after the Switch 2’s launch. While the image generated for OSM appears to be the same one used for the Switch 2, fans think that Nintendo wouldn’t assign a dedicated product code without a purpose. That’s where the theories start.
Is It Too Early for the Switch 2 Oled or Lite Versions?
Image Credit: NintendoThe most popular theory is that “OSM” refers to an “OLED Screen Model,” which is why fans think it’s the OLED refresh for the Switch 2. Nintendo already surprised us last year by not releasing the Switch 2 with an OLED display, especially given how well the OLED version of the original Switch was received.
There have been previous reports suggesting that Samsung had been pushing for its OLED panels to be included in a future Switch 2 refresh. It would make sense since the company already supplies memory and display components for Nintendo’s hardware.
The other theory is that “OSM” could mean “Ounce Small Model,” a nod to the Switch 2’s reported development codename, “Ounce.” That theory hints at it being the Switch 2 Lite, a smaller, more affordable handheld-only variant similar to the original Switch Lite. Last time Nintendo released the Switch Lite was about two-and-a-half years after the original console, so 2026 would be early.
Ultimately, we don’t know anything for sure. Nintendo does do hardware refreshes, but releasing a revised model barely a year after launch would be unusually fast by the company’s standards. For now, we have no real evidence that an OLED or Lite Switch 2 is coming.
