Hell Let Loose: Vietnam Dev Confirms the Game Runs Better on PS5 Pro

Hell Let Loose: Vietnam is now officially available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, and the new entry in the tactical shooter series brings us into a new era of warfare. This new title still has the large-scale, communication-focused gameplay of the original, and the dense jungles, automatic weapons, helicopters, and boats of Vietnam bring new changes to the gameplay.

Ahead of launch, developer Expression Games has discussed the technical work that went into bringing the Vietnam experience to consoles. In a recent interview with GameWatcher, Studio Technical Director Kieran D’Archambaud confirmed that the team has specifically taken advantage of the PlayStation 5 Pro’s additional hardware power. As a result, PS5 Pro players can expect improved performance and dynamic resolution scaling.

Hell Let Loose: Vietnam Takes Advantage of PS5 Pro Hardware

According to D’Archambaud, achieving feature parity between PC and consoles was one of the team’s major priorities during development. The move to Unreal Engine 5 also allowed Expression Games to rebuild parts of the game’s online infrastructure and improve the console experience.

The developer says the baseline target across supported platforms is 60 frames per second. On PS5 Pro, however, the additional hardware headroom allows Hell Let Loose: Vietnam to push its presentation further through dynamic resolution scaling.

Instead of locking the game to one internal resolution at all times, dynamic resolution allows the game to adjust its rendering resolution depending on the demands being placed on the hardware. This can help maintain a smoother performance target during particularly demanding scenes while allowing the game to render at a higher internal resolution when there is sufficient performance headroom.

That is particularly relevant for the large battlefields we’ll experience in Hell Let Loose: Vietnam, with up to 100 players and dense vegetation, vehicles, environmental effects, and extensive terrain. Rendering all of those elements simultaneously can place considerable demands on a console.

The PS5 Pro advantage is therefore not simply about adding visual effects. The developer’s comments indicate that the more powerful hardware is being used to improve the game’s overall rendering performance and internal resolution.

Expression Games had already been working extensively on optimization following the game’s Open Beta. One of the issues we saw in that beta test was bottlenecks across a wide range of PC and console hardware, giving the team data that could be used to refine rendering, animation, graphics settings, and other systems.

The team also made improvements to distant-player animation, after beta players reported that characters could appear to stutter or move like a slideshow when viewed from long distances. Audio positioning, weapon effects, muzzle flashes, environmental effects, and the game’s new 3D Tactical Map also received additional attention.

Hell Let Loose: Vietnam launched on August 13, 2026, and features six maps at release: Thanh Hóa Bridge, Huế Outskirts, Vạn Tường, Quảng Ngãi, Đắk Tô Airfield, and Cam Ranh Port. The game also includes four launch modes: Warfare, Offensive, Conquest, and Domination.

These new updates should make the Vietnam experience more polished than what players saw during the Open Beta. Expression Games has continued optimizing the game for both PC and consoles, with improvements made to performance and stability before release.

The game’s dense environments make optimization especially important. Vietnam’s battlefields contain thick foliage, waterways, villages, open areas, and large-scale combat scenarios that can create significantly different rendering demands from one moment to the next.

The developer’s earlier Q&A also confirmed that optimization will not end with launch. Hell Let Loose: Vietnam is a live-service title, meaning future updates are expected to continue addressing performance and introducing technical improvements.
