After almost a year of waiting, the highly anticipated Part 3 of Bleach: TYBW is finally out and has become the talk of the anime community online. Despite the long-anxious 10 years of delay, Bleach: The Thousand-Year Blood War is making waves online. From mind-boggling animations to terrific action scenes, TYBW captivated several fans to the show. 

Indeed, TYBW owes its success to its predecessor, classic Bleach, which at the time was arguably the most popular shonen series, earning its place among the Big 3. Despite the long list of 366 episodes, Bleach was the first among the Big 3 to be concluded, leaving many viewers to view it as an inferior series. With the addition of the Thousand Year Blood War, Tite Kubo introduced a new set of characters, some of whom are receiving a divided reaction from fans. Back in the classic series, Tite Kubo introduced the Espadas, an order of ten Arrancar who are the strongest and most powerful in Sosuke Aizen’s army. Szayelaporro was the former Espada 0 who was later demoted to Espada 8.

Szayelaporro is a tall and thin male Arrancar, who has shoulder-length pink hair with bangs on the right side of his forehead, captivating many fans with his beautiful and splendid design. Furthermore, the remains of his Hollow mask take the form of rectangular-framed glasses, giving him a scholarly appearance.

Despite Kubo’s amazing character design and his scientific background, the character failed to attract fans’ attention and leave a lasting impression on the audience.

Although fans acknowledge his impressive character design, Szayelaporro has garnered more hate than any other Espada, which could pose a challenge for the Bleach remake. Besides Espada 8, there’s one more character who elicits a varied response from fans, even though they are portrayed as being on the good side.

Bleach Creator Reveals the Most Complex Character in the Series

Despite being on the good side, many fans still view Mayuri Kurotsuchi as an evil character. This is understandable given Kubo designed Mayuri as a complex character who wasn’t timid about his immoral methods. However, this only resulted in some viewers disliking his beliefs and character.

Interestingly, in a joint interview with My Hero Academia‘s creator, Kōhei Horikoshi, Kubo opens up about his initial insecurities while designing Mayuri’s character.

After learning about Mayuri being Horikoshi’s favorite character, Kubo talks about the common misjudgment readers have against him.

The mangaka revealed he never planned to portray any of the 13 Court Guard Squads as the bad guys. However, Mayuri’s complex character made the fandom misunderstand his good intentions. It’s a creator’s job to highlight the complexities of black and white through their work and Mayuri’s character is a testament to Kubo’s beliefs.
