Jujutsu Kaisen is finally over! Chapter 272 brings the six years of incredible storytelling to a close, leaving many fans awe-struck. After years of anticipation, Sukuna’s reign of fear is finally over in Jujutsu Kaisen. While its final arc wasn’t deemed perfect, the shonen manga still managed to end on a largely high note.

Since the start of the Culling Games Arc, Gege portrayed Sukuna as a true calamity, an opponent of unmatched strength. Amid the criticism of a rushed ending, Sukuna’s long-anticipated end was concluded in a single chapter, leaving many fans bitterly disappointed.

While many fans did appreciate Gege’s six years of dedication, they also openly acknowledged the flaws of the rushed ending. An old interview with Gege Akutami reveals that the legendary mangaka had planned Sukuna’s ending from the start, despite some fans’ dissatisfaction.

While JJK fans are a bit upset by Sukuna’s demise, Gege Akutami messed up the biggest catastrophic event and faced a lot of criticism for their rushed ending narrative.

Throughout the series, it’s clear that Gege Akutami favored Sukuna, as reflected in their narrative. Sukuna was arguably the strongest character who achieved numerous notable feats in jujutsu sorcery that made him a terrifying individual, even during the ‘Golden Age of Sorcery’.

Among all the beloved characters, Sukuna might have received the best ending of all. While many fans are debating among themselves about Sukuna’s end, Gege might have planned it from the start. In an old interview from 2020, Gege shared some insights on their perspective on good and evil, which parallels a lot with the King of Curses’ end. They said:

If there’s one thing to mention, it’s that no one holds the ultimate truth, be it the ‘good’ or the ‘bad’ characters. Some seek to kill the hero out of pure selfishness, while others are led to this decision by logical reasoning. If nobody is truly right, then nobody is necessarily wrong either. Each character is guided by their own ethics.

Since the interview was published, the story has advanced significantly, with Gege’s portrayal of Sukuna drawing many parallels to this earlier narrative. JJK’s final chapter brought back both Sukuna and Mahito, the two conversing in the afterlife. To everyone’s surprise, the King of Curses decided he would try to change himself if reincarnated, with Mahito mocking him for becoming soft.

Sukuna’s decision to change in his next life directly parallels Gojo’s decision to stay the same after death. As nice as it was to see Sukuna commit to his beliefs until his last breath, many fans were left questioning JJK‘s conclusion for giving the most evil character the best ending of all.

Is a Jujutsu Kaisen Sequel on the Horizon?

Kenjaku is regarded as a genius and a master manipulator, as evidenced by his role during the Culling Games Arc. For over 1000 years, Kenjaku has been plotting to evolve the human species through a massive surge of cursed energy.

To kick off his 1000-year long-awaited plan, Kenjaku sealed Gojo Satoru to start the Culling Games. He revealed that he intends to give birth to a new kind of Cursed Energy and has been living in shadows for 1000 years to see his plan come to fruition. Unfortunately, Kenjaku’s master plan was never fully executed, though it had the potential to surpass the fan-favorite Shibuya Arc.

However, it’s important to highlight that Akutami hasn’t shared any insight about the Tengen’s barriers or the end of Culling Games, leaving many fans optimistic about the mangaka’s plan for another sequel.
