Gal Gadot Confirms James Gunn Planned Wonder Woman 3 With Her Despite Henry Cavill’s Exit

Gal Gadot has set the record straight about her DC departure, revealing a surprising twist in the studio’s leadership transition. During an appearance on Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast, the actress shut down rumors that new DC Studios bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran dropped her, explaining the reality was quite the reverse. She stated:

They were like ‘We’re going to develop it with you, the third,’ la la la.” But I saw the way everybody else were handled.

Rather than showing her the door, the newly appointed heads wanted to collaborate with her on Wonder Woman 3. However, after witnessing the messy handling of former DCEU colleagues, most notably Henry Cavill, Gadot chose to walk away voluntarily. While Gunn kept the door wide open for Diana Prince, Gadot decided it was time to step down for good.

Speaking on the podcast, Gadot pulled back the curtain on why she ultimately declined the studio’s offer to build the threequel together. When Horowitz noted that Cavill’s abrupt departure was particularly rough on everyone involved, Gadot did not hesitate to agree and said:

The Henry situation was not being handled elegantly, to say the least.

Cavill’s DC exit remains one of Hollywood’s most chaotic shake-ups. After being ushered back for a cameo in Black Adam and taking to social media to celebrate his Superman return in late 2022, he was officially let go just weeks later when Gunn prioritized his own Superman reboot. Gadot pointed out that the split with Wonder Woman filmmaker Patty Jenkins was handled similarly ungracefully, creating an unstable behind-the-scenes climate that made continuing feel wrong.

Despite the turbulent ending to her superhero era, Gadot holds no grudge toward the new regime, looking back with nothing but pride for her time carrying the iconic shield.

I’m so grateful that I got the opportunity to wear these boots, and to have the character be so celebrated, and be the vessel at that point of time.

As DC Studios presses ahead with its “Gods and Monsters” chapter, the role of Wonder Woman will eventually be recast for a new generation. In the meantime, the Amazonian prequel series Paradise Lost remains in development at HBO, expanding the lore of Themyscira. Gadot departs with an undeniable superhero legacy, proving that stepping away on one’s own terms can be the ultimate power move.
