Bashing Elden Ring’s story pierces its fans’ hearts, especially because people often get overwhelmed by its nonlinear structure and immediately form an opinion about it being confusing without trying to understand more.
A similar thing happened with a famous author called Andrew Klavan, who is famous for True Crime and Don’t Say a Word, both of which have been adapted for screen. His opinion, however, was not taken well by the fans, and he was bashed for his half-knowledge about the game.
Klavan’s comments about Elden Ring’s story are quite controversial
On one of the Shorts on Kalvan’s YouTube channel, he was seen talking about the art and story of Elden Ring. He believes that the creators use a ‘slightly cliched language’ in the game and further goes on to dissect why he feels that the game’s story is confusing and does not make sense.
Kalvan has been a video game fan for a very long time now and feels that his half-assessed opinion about a widely celebrated game will be taken seriously by the game’s player community. All his opinions have managed to do is create animosity among the fans. Everyone has come together to unanimously bash his opinions.
Talking about the game in a negative light, he talked about how the entire world of the game feels disconnected due to its story. He said:
The only story I know is that somebody kidnapped Princess Peach. I have no clue what the story is whatsoever; I just know everything’s very dire and none of the girls have shirts, which is kind of like my house.
One user commented on the short about the impossibility of knowing the full story by just watching the introduction. They said:
My man watches the introduction and expects to know the whole goddamn book.
Another user talked about the author’s credibility. They said:
This video is even funnier when you realise Klavan is an aggressively mediocre writer, a poor political cocommentator,nd about as stimulating to watch as drinking nail polish remover.
Another user said:
Klavan, stop reviewing video games, this is getting sad.
The comment section of the video is full of Elden Ring fans trying to defend the game and its developer. Kalvan should go through the entire lore of the game before making such conclusions.
Elden Ring follows a non-linear story structure, which can appear quite confusing at first glance
There is no doubt that Elden Ring has an extensive lore, which can be quite confusing at times. However, that in no way indicates that the game has a bad storyline or narrative structure. An indie game developer once bashed the game’s design language of Elden Ring, which also left fans infuriated.
It sure is time intensive, which might not be everybody’s cup of tea, but by no means can it be categorized as bad. One needs to give it enough time to understand the game’s lore to the fullest. The game might not be perfect, but it is not bad or confusing.
However, not everyone might have the time or the energy to invest so much of their time playing games, which is quite understandable. Do you agree with Klavan’s opinion about Elden Ring? Let us know in the comments below.
