Every New NBC Show Coming in 2026–27 After Brilliant Minds and Stumble’s Cancelation

NBC is reshaping its lineup in 2026-2027 with a mix of ambitious and quirky TV shows. Fan-favorite franchises like Law & Order and Chicago Fire will stick around, but the network has made some difficult decisions to clear space for what lies ahead. 

As in, they have cancelled Brilliant Minds and Stumble, two shows that were critically appreciated but couldn’t survive in the increasingly crowded landscape. Now, let’s look at what series the network is promising us for 2026-2027 and why they have decided to move on from the aforementioned titles. 

Slate of Exciting New Shows Coming to NBC in 2026-2027 

NBC’s upcoming schedule seems to be packed with scripted and unscripted shows that will complement its returning hits. So, here are the major new shows headed to the network:

• Line of Fire – A high-stakes drama where we follow a family that is deeply involved in the U.S. law enforcement agencies. It features Peter Krause, Hope Davis, Kat Cunning, Tommy O’Brien, Taylor Bloom, and Charlie Barnett, centering on a conspiracy that forces the characters to choose between loyalty and duty. Josh Safran serves as writer and executive producer.

• Newlyweds – As the title suggests, this will be a multi-camera comedy starring real-life married couple Téa Leoni and Tim Daly. Leoni plays Jeanie, a free-spirited woman, and Daly plays James, a buttoned-up professor, who marry impetuously after a whirlwind courtship. Jamie Lee Curtis also recurs as a guest star.

•  The Traitors – NBC is ready to bring Peacock’s Emmy-winning reality hit to broadcast television, but this version will feature civilians. So, you will see secret traitors trying to deceive inside a Scottish castle. 

• The Rockford Files – A reboot of the beloved 1970s detective series starring David Boreanaz as James Rockford, who returns to private investigation after being newly paroled for a crime he didn’t commit. His quest for legitimacy quickly lands him in the crosshairs of both local police and organized crime. The series also stars Michaela McManus, Felix Solis, and Jacki Weaver. Note: this is a midseason premiere, debuting in January 2027, not fall 2026.

• Sunset P.I.- A single-camera comedy from Brooklyn Nine-Nine writers Dan Goor and Luke Del Tredici, featuring Jake Johnson alongside Jane Levy, Langston Kerman, Mary Shalaby, and Keith David, continuing the tradition of Los Angeles private-eye stories with a comedic twist. Like The Rockford Files, this is a midseason show, premiering in February 2027.

• Wordle – Inspired by the popular word game, this will be a primetime game show hosted by TODAY co-host Savannah Guthrie and executive produced by Jimmy Fallon, where contestants race through fast-paced word-solving challenges. It is scheduled to debut in 2027.

Here’s Why NBC Cancelled Brilliant Minds and Stumble 

According to NBCUniversal executive Jeff Bader, NBC faced severe scheduling limitations due to its growing sports commitments. So they had to prioritize potential new breakout hits over lower-rated series (via Deadline). 

Stumble was a single-camera mockumentary comedy that aired behind a multi-camera sitcom, creating a tonal mismatch. Even after NBC moved reruns, the ratings never recovered. Meanwhile, Brilliant Minds’ ratings kept dropping despite holding a strong Monday slot, so canceling it only made sense.
