Spoiler Alert !!!
This article contains spoiler for Invincible comics ahead.
Invincible has already introduced a slew of villains that have made Mark’s life hell. While it gets muddy sometimes, as villains and heroes switch sides depending on the situation, there are certain recurring bad guys that squarely qualify for the role throughout the story.
However, by the very nature of its story, Invincible has seen several enemies become allies and seen several allies become enemies. Here are 2 new villains that the heroes in Invincible are going to deal with, and two friends that Mark is going to have to fight.
1 Gravitator’s Run As A Villain Is Short But Important
Gravitator, with Invincible in pursuit || Credit: Robert Kirkman/Image ComicsAfter the deal that Invincible made with Thragg, the run-in that he has with Gravitator is very telling of how his thought process around becoming a hero has changed. While Invincible and Cecil once got into an argument about whether criminals deserve redemption, Invincible has come a long way. His run-in with Gravitator does not necessarily result in a fight.
It results in a correction. Gravitator begins working with Cecil on Invincible’s recommendation, aiding D.A. Sinclair in all the work that they do for the GDA. The seeds of this storyline were sown when Sinclair tried to apologize to Mark, but Invincible was unable to entertain the apology then. However, having made the compromises that he has made, Invincible begins looking at the bigger picture when it comes to being a superhero, which includes forgiving those who can be forgiven and moving on.
2 Allen Is New To Villainy, Without Really Meaning To Be A Villain
Allen has been a great friend to the Grayson family and their allies. Whether it be Mark, Nolan, Oliver, or Zoe, Allen has stood by them through thick and thin, being the best one-eyed alien friend that they could ask for. However, he is now the leader of the Coalition of Planets. And he is under orders from Thaedus to use the Scourge Virus, with the possible side effect being that it would wipe out genetically similar species like humans.
Allen does not take this decision lightly, and he is torn up about the fact that Viltrumites take refuge on Earth. However, the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, and Allen will ultimately decide to release the virus on Earth, going there with Oliver to deliver the last possible killing blow that they can to the Viltrumites. However, they underestimate that Mark is going to have help, from none other than the likes of Thragg.
3 Monax Zaxal Echoes Themes That One Can See In Mark’s Story
Monax Zaxal with his father, Amanda || Credit: Robert Kirkman/Image ComicsWhat is an Invincible season without a Flaxan invasion? Except, it seems that Amanda and Robot might have handed the civilization a super weapon this time around- Monax Zaxal. Monax is the son of Amanda, who engaged in a romantic relationship with a Flaxan woman in her monster form, which is male.
While Amanda and Rex ensure that Flaxan invasions do not plague Earth anymore, there is an invasion anyway, and the Flaxans show up with technology that is far beyond what they had before, and the half Monster, half Flaxan hybrid, Monax Zaxal. In many ways, the character was very similar to Mark, given that he had a monstrously strong alien father who could wipe out his civilization. However, Monax was exactly what Mark would be if he became a full-fledged member of the GDA, and deferred to Cecil without ever questioning his ability.
4 Oliver Is Too Young And Alien To Realize He Is In The Wrong
Oliver would accompany Allen from Telascria once he was fully healed and would be party to unleashing the Virus. As Allen tried to fight the Guardians of the Globe, Thragg, and Mark, Oliver was able to slip away. He was only stopped because Mark caught up to him and got sprayed with the Virus.
While Oliver does not wish ill on Mark, he is definitely going to become a major antagonist in the story. His complete devotion to the extermination of the Viltrumites comes from the fact that he is not human. To him, as long as Mark, Eve, Debbie, and Nolan are safe, he doesn’t care about what happens to the rest of the planet. His own homeworld of Thraxa is likely filled with people who do not remember him or the Viltrumite culling of their people. To him, Earth going kaput really doesn’t matter, as long as the people he loves survive, and the Viltrumtes are wiped out.
