Every Marvel Movie The Devil Wears Prada 2 Beat at The Box-Office

The long-awaited sequel, The Devil Wears Prada 2, has taken over the box office in the past two weeks, earning $433 million worldwide, as of May 11, 2026 (via Box Office Mojo). The sequel to the 2006 comedy-drama has already surpassed its predecessor, which had earned $326.7 million (via Box Office Mojo).

The Disney movie has become the fifth-highest-grossing film of 2026 and has also beaten several other popular franchise movies in two weeks. The Marvel franchise is one of the highest-grossing film franchises, but The Devil Wears Prada 2 seems to have beaten some superhero flicks in the MCU.

1 The Incredible Hulk – $265.5 Million

The second movie in the MCU had to compete with Iron Man, which was a huge hit with critics and audiences alike. While the film has been praised in retrospect, The Incredible Hulk is among the lowest-grossers for the MCU, with the Edward Norton-starrer earning only $265.5 million (via The Numbers).

The Devil Wears Prada 2, with its $433 million box office performance, has surpassed the only solo Hulk movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The success of Iron Man, Edwart Norton’s interference in the script, and tonal confusion are just some of the reasons for The Incredible Hulk’s disappointing performance.

2 Captain America: The First Avenger – $370.5 Million

Chris Evans’ incredible debut as Captain America was a period piece, set during World War II. The MCU was really ambitious in Phase One of the franchise, working on lesser-known heroes and giving them the superstar treatment. While Steve Rogers has become an A-list superhero now, The First Avenger only earned $370.5 million (via Box Office Mojo).

The film was released right before the MCU’s first team-up movie, The Avengers, and directly tied to it. Of course, Marvel recovered so much more with the 2012 film (it earned $1.5 billion), and the Captain America sequels have also done better. The Devil Wears Prada 2 surpassed The First Avenger by about $73 million.

3 Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings – $432.2 Million

Simu Liu’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings was released during the COVID-19 pandemic and still managed to exceed box office expectations. The film was not released on Disney+ on the same day as its theatrical release (which Black Widow had followed), changing release practices at the time.

Earning $432.2 million (via Box Office Mojo), the film was highly praised by critics and audiences, rejuvenating the MCU after a lull post-Endgame. The MCU film is only $800K short of The Devil Wears Prada 2’s box office performance, although the Disney film still has a longer theatrical run.

4 Eternals – $402 Million

Chloe Zhao was fresh off an Oscar for Nomadland when she took a stab at franchise filmmaking with the MCU’s Eternals. The film had a lot of hype. Angelina Jolie, Salma Hayek, Gemma Chan, Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, Barry Keoghan, Brian Tyree Henry, and more were key cast members, and it had a budget of $236 million (via Forbes).

The film was a box office disappointment, earning only $402 million (via Box Office Mojo). The Devil Wears Prada 2 has already surpassed it, taking a $31 million lead on the multistarrer. All sequels associated with Eternals have also languished in limbo, especially the Blade movie with Mahershala Ali.

5 The Marvels – $206.1 Million

The sequel to 2019’s Captain Marvel was a big disappointment, both at the box office and with audiences. The Marvels teamed up Captain Marvel with Ms Marvel and Monica Rambeau, and was supposed to be one of the biggest releases for the MCU. Both Captain Marvel and the Disney+ series Ms Marvel have done well.

However, the film was hated by audiences and only earned $206 million (via Box Office Mojo), making it one of the lowest-grossing films of the MCU. The Devil Wears Prada 2 surpassed that within a few days of release.

6 Captain America: Brave New World – $415.1 Million

The fourth Captain America film was the first one not to have Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers in the lead, with Anthony Mackie’s Sam taking on the shield. Brave New World also saw Harrison Ford replace the late William Hurt as Thaddeus Ross. Despite the hype around the film’s ‘Red Hulk’ scene, BNW only earned $415 million (via Box Office Mojo).

Many reasons can be attributed to the film’s failure. Multiple reshoots, the change in lead character, and a general fatigue for superhero films from the MCU may have caused audiences to not turn up to the movie theatre. The Devil Wears Prada 2 surpassed the film and has already made $18 million more.

7 Thunderbolts* – $382.4 Million

This one is a bit sad, but the Thunderbolts* film was actually good. Many praised the film for the character dynamics, the Avengers-style banter and storyline of a ragtag group, and its complex themes. Still, the film was an average grosser, earning $382.4 million at the box office (via Box Office Mojo).

The lack of a popular hero or the Thunderbolts IP being lesser known among fans may have led to the average box office numbers. However, the Thunderbolts, a.k.a The New Avengers, will be returning in Avengers: Doomsday.
