Emily Blunt’s Dark Action Thriller Is Coming to Hulu Right on Time on May 1st

The dark action thriller Sicario, starring Emily Blunt, is set to arrive on the streaming platform Hulu on May 1, 2026 (via Hulu Press). Interestingly enough, even her highly anticipated sequel, The Devil Wears Prada 2, will be released in theatres on the same day. The sheer happenstance of two contrasting roles of Blunt’s career, colliding on the same day, is quite intriguing.

Notably, the action movie was released in 2015 and was not available on the streaming platform as of yet. However, with Blunt’s successful role in The Devil Wears Prada and its upcoming sequel, it is the right time for her to shine. The dark action thriller and the fashion sequel both show very different sides of Blunt’s acting career, which should be explored.

Blunt’s performance does just that as her acting shows viewers that Kate is struggling to cope with the constant violence and betrayal she experiences. In one of her most ‘grounded’ roles yet, Blunt proved to be an actress who can play the outsider adapting to the dark environment at hand. The character was morally compromised for an agent who wants to do the right thing.

In her filmography, Blunt has not had a darker role than she did in Sicario. Except for the A Quiet Place movie franchise and The Girl on the Train, Blunt has always taken up much lighter roles. However, just like this action thriller, several Emily Blunt movies don’t get the love they deserve.

The character she played in the action thriller was absolutely powerless, and viewers can see her internal conflict. Blunt has admitted to having insomnia because of the exposure and the weight this role carried (via Sky News). But her acting and the movie were so successful that a second installment to the dark action thriller has already been released, while a third sequel is in development. However, Sicario is quite different from her hit sequel, which also releases on May 1.

Unlike the dark thriller, Blunt is seen in a completely different role in The Devil Wears Prada 2, showcasing her acting range. The lighthearted comedy sequel to the originally released movie in 2006 shows Blunt’s character Emily in a completely opposite role compared to Kate.

Blunt plays a fashion icon who has perfect one-liners and impeccable comic timing. Her acting here feels way easier, where she represents an ambitious woman who has an amazing work ethic. She begins as a mean and angry character, who is eventually humanized as the movie progresses.

The actress’s talent and range are clearly visible as she plays two contrasting roles with ease and conviction. Her character in the Prada movies is unapologetically herself, and even the actress admitted how The Devil Wears Prada helped her beat a stereotype.

Emily was, quite frankly, a great assistant to Miranda Priestly and one of the fan favorite characters. As two different roles of the actress come on screens, one thing is for sure: no matter which character Blunt takes on, she is going to nail it.
