Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero – How to Get Dragon Balls and Summon Shenron

If you want to unlock all the characters in Sparking Zero, then you need to know how to get Dragon Balls and summon Shenron! This is not a new mechanic in the game. Previous titles in the franchise have also included this hunt for the iconic spheres as part of the entire experience.

The Tenkaichi games made it so that you even had a radar that told you when one of these was close by, and destroying the environment would result in you acquiring the collectible. Sparking Zero adds a few new ways to collect these coveted items and acquiring them allows you to get your wish (or wishes) granted by an eternal dragon!

How to Get Dragon Balls in Sparking Zero?

Getting Dragon Balls in Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero requires you to engage in combat in various modes in the game, such as Offline/Online Battles, Tournaments, and Mission-based battles.

While the first two don’t guarantee getting these items, the final one on the list does, but the method can only be used once. Summoning is essential to unlocking some characters in Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero, so acquiring these items is essential to filling out your roster.

There are three main ways to acquire them in the game. The first is by completing Offline battles against the CPU, the second is by competing in Tournaments, and the third is by completing Whis’s Stamp Book. The older games also allowed you to acquire them while playing Episodic Battles, but that doesn’t appear to be the case with Sparking Zero.

With the first two methods, you can acquire both Earth Dragon Balls and Namekian Dragon Balls. There is no set guarantee of earning one or the other, but Namekian ones are more rare than Earth’s.

This might be because Porunga offers three wishes, making his summon that much more useful in the game. You can also only hold seven at any given time. So, if you’ve acquired enough to summon Shenron, you won’t get even the Namekian ones until you make your wish and disperse them.

Offline Battles

The easiest and fastest method to acquire Dragon Balls in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero is to set up Offline Battles against the CPU. Not only do you not have to deal with the hassles of online connectivity, but you are also much more likely to win and get one for your efforts.

While you can always defeat your opponents the usual way and get better with your favorite characters, there is a way to optimize this strategy, much like how Bandai Namco’s strategy for this year is paying off in spades!

First, choose a character that has a ki blast with a super short animation, like Gogeta (Super) with his Stardust Breaker. Next, you want to equip this character with the Rising Fighting Spirit Battle Ability item, which will give you max energy right from the start of the match.

Also, place your Super Ki Blast in the very first slot. Make your opponent a non-flying character like Mr. Satan and choose the World Tournament stage as your location with the “Out of Bounds” rule active in Match Settings.

You can press and hold the R2/RT +X/Square button the moment the fight animation begins and skip the intro.

This should result in the character launching their Ki Blast as soon as the fight commences, leading to the opponent being thrown out of bounds and winning the match. Rinse and repeat this process, and you should get one every 5-10 matches, but Namekian variants will be rarer at one every 20-30 matches.

Tournament Battles

If the previous farming method gets a bit boring, you can always take part in the various World Tournaments to acquire Dragon Balls. These items can be a reward for emerging victorious from these gauntlets, and you can also set specific match conditions to make the experience easier or more challenging.

The rate at which you get them from these Tournaments is varied, as you might end up getting Zeni as a reward as well.

A good idea is to switch the kinds of Tournaments you are taking part in to improve your chances. So, if you participated in the World Tournament the first time, select the Other World Tournament the next time. Keep going back and forth between the different Tournament options, and you will be getting richer along the way.

Whis’s Stamp Book

These are the Mission-based Dragon Balls you can acquire by completing the specific conditions laid out by the Angel Whis. You can find the seven tasks required to be completed by scrolling all the way to the bottom of his Stamp Book.

Each of the tasks requires you to either perform a specific attack or use a character in a specific way, a new mechanic that is one of the many factors that make the game a refreshing title in the franchise.

While this is a sure-shot way of acquiring Dragon Balls, it can only be done once in the entire playthrough. Once you have completed all the tasks, they will not refresh, so you will have to rely on the above two methods to get your other wishes fulfilled.

How to Summon Shenron and Porunga in Sparking Zero?

With seven in hand, you can summon Shenron or Porunga by visiting the Main Menu and selecting the “Come Forth…” page. Here, you will be able to see how many Dragon Balls you have collected and for which entity. Choose the Dragon that can be summoned, and you will have to then make a choice after a short animation.

Shenron will only be able to grant you a single wish in the game. These could include new titles, outfits, powering up the character, items, or more Zeni. Porunga can grant you three wishes, but his Dragon Balls are also not as common as Shenron’s. Once you make your wish, the Dragon will disappear, and you will have to start hunting for the Dragon Balls all over again.
