Although streaming was introduced to get rid of ads, Disney+ has officially confirmed to go back to basics. Simply put, Disney+ now reserves the right to show ads across all subscription tiers, including premium. Being a nicer way of saying things, Disney+’s new terms give them the right to show you unskippable ads in every piece of content that you will see on the platform.
In a move that would make Prime Video blush (since they too introduced unskippable ads in some tiers), Disney+’s bold move has made waves across the internet. Check out the post on X:

Showcasing ads before and after movies might just be Disney trying to recover all that lost money from the Snow White live-action remake. However, it just seems to be a bit far-fetched.
Prime Video Already Increased Its Ad-Free Subscription Prices
Credit: Amazon Prime VideoAlthough it feels like a response to Disney+’s move, Amazon Prime Video increased its ad-free subscription plan’s price back in April. As confirmed by Collider, Prime Video’s most popular plan, “Ad-Free,” was replaced by another subscription tier called Prime Video Ultra.
The ad-free tier started at $2.99 a month. However, with Prime Video raising prices, the new Prime Video Ultra subscription now costs $4.99 per month! Although there are some added benefits to it (like Dolby Atmos, streaming across simultaneous devices, and more), it still feels like the streaming giants cannot keep their profits up.
With Disney+ introducing unskippable ads, fans are starting to question whether Disney+’s move will have any effect on the subscriber count or not.
Will Disney+ Lose Subscribers With Unskippable Ads?
Credit: Disney+Honestly? We don’t think it’s going to be much of a problem for Disney+. With a total of 135 million subscribers (as of 2025, via Business of Apps), there are several million users who are already subscribed to an ad-supported tier for their streaming. Naturally, when Disney+ enforces unskippable advertisements, there are already millions of users who are agreeable.
On the other hand, the people unhappy with ad-supported tiers will have no choice but to see Marvel movies and Disney+ original shows without subscribing to Disney+. Naturally, it seems that although the streaming giant has a lot to gain from these updated terms of use, it seems that Disney+ will allegedly not lose too many subscribers.
