Joker 2 Joaquin Pheonix and Lady Gaga

SUMMARY

  • Joaquin Phoenix and Todd Phillips worked in the iconic 2019 film Joker.
  • Joker: Folie à Deux became one of the most anticipated sequels for millions of fans.
  • Although the disappointment was real, an Instagram reel suggests that Joaquin Phoenix knew about it!

Folie à Deux means “Madness of Two” in French. That was the name of the infamous film that Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga starred in. Understandably, the film’s release and its subsequent release were indeed madness.

Although it was believed that it was the madness (and the brilliance) of director Todd Phillips that brought Arthur Fleck to life in Joker, it all came crashing down with the sequel and fans are definitely upset about it. However, it seems that lead star Joaquin Phoenix knew… that this was going to happen.

Joaquin Phoenix Allegedly Said “It’s Horrible” At The Premiere!

The first film ends with Arthur Fleck dancing on the bonnet of a police car with a bloody smile on his face. The sequel continues the tale but unfortunately, that’s all it does. Continue the tale.

From the millions of negative reviews that Joker: Folie à Deux has received, most of them state that the film doesn’t go anywhere. It just goes around in circles and circles with a ton of songs to fill in the air. Despite all of this, the Joaquin Phoenix and Todd Phillips film received a standing ovation upon its premiere.

A reel was recently uploaded on Instagram which showcased the moment the film got over and the crowd gave Lady Gaga, Phoenix, and, Phillips a standing ovation. However, eagle-eyed fans think they can spot Phoenix saying something.

Did you catch it? When Phoenix says ‘Thank you’ to a gentleman, he can be allegedly seen saying the words ‘It’s horrible’. There are claims by lip-readers that Phoenix is talking about the film here and allegedly calling it ‘horrible’. Fans had a field day about the alleged statements.

Damn bro said “It’s horrible” @marvelousnetwork

“It’s bad. It’s horrible” 😅 I agree Joaquin @bachi_romero

They were clapping because it was finally over. @1607.js

This potentially means that if the rumors are true, the Gladiator actor knew that the film was terrible but he had no choice.

Reprising the role of Arthur Fleck, Phoenix might not have wanted anyone else to play the character. This could have led him to play the role in a movie that he allegedly knew was going to flop!

Todd Phillips Never Promised Us The Joker!

Yes, the DC logo, and the mention of the Wayne family, Harley Quinn, and, Alfred are enough for people to assume that the story would be about the Joker. However, it seems that we are wrong about this one.

When the movie ended and the negative reception started flowing, Phillips decided to release a statement to the world. Contrary to popular belief, saying that the character is not who the name of the movie is based on, is not considered a great opinion.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, here’s what Phillips said about the character of Joker and Joaquin Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck.

He’s accepted the fact that he’s always been Arthur Fleck; he’s never been this thing that’s been put upon him, this idea that Gotham people put on him, that he represents. He’s an unwitting icon. This thing was placed on him, and he doesn’t want to live as a fake anymore — he wants to be who he is.

Well, that’s a turn of tables that we never expected to see coming. Neither did Todd Phillips as Joker: Folie à Deux is considered one of the worst sequels ever made to an iconic film.

Joker: Folie à Deux received a rating of 5.3/10 on IMDB and a meager low of 33% on Rotten Tomatoes (and a standing ovation). The iconic Joaquin Phoenix film is currently screening in theaters across the world.
