Control Resonant serves as a sequel to 2019’s Control, where Remedy set up a strong foundation for the story that follows. This time, you don’t play as Jesse Faden, but her younger brother, Dylan Faden. The story revolves around the Hiss invasion that is tearing Manhattan apart by manipulating physical beings. Things are getting out of hand, and the responsibility to “fix” everything is on Dylan’s shoulders.

After years of confinement by the Federal Bureau of Control (FBC), Dylan is finally free and is deployed to fight against a supernatural crisis called the Hiss. It has spread beyond the Oldest House and is quickly taking over Manhattan, turning it into a nightmarish city.
Dylan finds himself in the center of this crisis, as he is the main protagonist of the game. Yes, the story shifts focus from Jesse Faden, who was the protagonist of Control (2019). Although Remedy has confirmed that Jesse will be there in this game, she won’t be playable. Dylan must find his sister Jesse, who is also the FBC Director, while combating the reality-threatening foes.
In his journey, Dylan must hone his powers and skills to battle the threat that’s lurking over Manhattan. With his shape-shifting sword, you can go berserk on the Hiss, Mold, and other paranormal threats.
Control Resonant Gameplay Explained
The broken Manhattan city in Control Resonant | Image via Remedy EntertainmentOne of the best things about Control Resonant is that you don’t have to play its prequel beforehand. The creative director of the game, Mikael Kasurinen, has confirmed that the sequel brings a fresh take on the story. Moreover, he has also mentioned that both Jesse and Dylan’s stories can be experienced separately. A player doesn’t necessarily have to play both games to understand their relation and lore. However, it’s recommended to play both titles for a better experience.
Another major gameplay improvement is the larger scale of the in-game world in the sequel. Players will have more area to explore while fighting against the dangers hiding in each corner. In addition to that, you will have more freedom to make your choices that impact the storyline moving forward.
Control Resonant is a full-fledged action-adventure where your character will have plenty of weapons and abilities to showcase. Taking that healthy arsenal into account, you can play around with a specific build according to your playstyle. It may have the potential to become one of Remedy’s best games yet.
With the September 24, 2026, release date locked in for the game, fans won’t have to wait much longer to see what happens next in Manhattan and the Oldest House.
