CD Projekt Red Officially Reveals Cyberpunk 2077 Edgerunners 2.5 Update With the Release of Edgerunners 2

CD Projekt Red has officially announced a new free update for Cyberpunk 2077, celebrating the release of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 on Netflix. Titled the Edgerunners 2 Update (Version 2.5), the new update includes content and gameplay features inspired by the anime series.

The studio announced it on October 20, 2026, as all 10 episodes of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 become available to stream worldwide. Developed in collaboration with Japanese animation studio TRIGGER, the new season tells another standalone story in the dystopian world of Cyberpunk 2077.

The free update is scheduled to launch on October 22, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The developer has also confirmed that the Nintendo Switch 2 version will receive the update shortly afterward.

Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.5 Introduces Big New Features

CD Projekt Red hasn’t revealed the complete list of new additions in the update, but the studio has revealed several notable features coming with Version 2.5. These include cyberware customization, a new dual-wielding playstyle, and additional content inspired by the new Edgerunners season.

The dual-wielding feature is going to be a completely new way to combat in Night City. It will certainly expand the options available during firefights. Meanwhile, the cyberware customization features will give us new ways to personalize V’s cybernetic abilities.

The studio has also promised new items and other features, but we will have to wait for the official reveal to learn precisely what the update contains. The promotional artwork features V alongside Weak Kingsley, a character from the new anime season, with V holding two firearms.

Cyberpunk 2077 surpassed 40 million copies sold by July 2026, so there is certainly going to be interest in the new update. It’ll be interesting to see if we get any additional story in Version 2.5 to connect the game with Edgerunners.

CDPR Will Reveal More Details During REDstreams on October 21

CDPR has scheduled a special REDstreams presentation for Wednesday, October 21, 2026, at 5 PM CEST (3 PM UTC). The livestream will give us a closer look at Version 2.5 and showcase upcoming features. You’ll be able to watch the presentation through the developer’s official channels on Twitch and YouTube.

The new anime season arrives almost four years after the first one. And with how successful the first season was, it should be a banger. It seems like the studio is connecting the game and the show with the premiere of the second season. However, this is probably not a sign of another DLC.

The studio has previously indicated that it has no plans for additional expansions, with much of its attention directed toward The Witcher IV and the next Cyberpunk game.
