Plenty of action TV shows have fight scenes, but only a few make you feel every punch. The best ones skip the flawless moves and show heroes getting tired, bleeding, and fighting dirty just to survive.
To rank these seven series, we looked at how grounded the choreography feels, how well the camera lets the action breathe, and whether the fights carry real consequences for the characters. Shows that lean on wirework or superhuman strength slide lower, while the ones that feel painfully real climb higher. Here are the seven action shows that deliver the most believable fight scenes on TV.
7 Into the Badlands Turns Martial Arts Into Great TV
Daniel Wu as Sunny in Into the Badlands | Credits: AMCAMC‘s Into the Badlands has some of the most beautiful fight choreography ever made for TV. Daniel Wu‘s Sunny slices through entire armies of Clippers, often in a flowing sequence that feels inspired by classic Hong Kong cinema. Wu, a martial arts film veteran, made sure every battle looked sharp and stylish.
The catch is that the show is built on wuxia-style action. Characters fly through the air, flip off walls, and use supernatural “gifts” during fights. It’s thrilling to watch, but it’s more fantasy than reality, which is why it sits at the bottom of this list.

6 The Terminal List Brings Military Precision to Its Fights
Chris Pratt in a still from The Terminal List | Credits: Prime VideoChris Pratt traded his goofy charm for pure grit in Prime Video’s The Terminal List. As Navy SEAL James Reece, he hunts down the people responsible for wiping out his platoon and his family. His fights feel tactical rather than flashy, with quick takedowns, close-quarters gunplay, and moves that look like they came straight from military training.
That realism comes from the show’s real-world focus, since author Jack Carr is a former SEAL himself. However, the series relies more on firefights than drawn-out hand-to-hand brawls, so its fight scenes don’t leave quite as lasting a mark as the others.

5 Reacher Makes Every Punch Sound Like a Car Crash
Alan Ritchson‘s Jack Reacher doesn’t fight pretty, and that’s exactly the point. Prime Video’s Reacher keeps its brawls short and brutal. Reacher wins by being smarter and bigger, often ending fights with a headbutt or a single crushing blow before anyone realizes what’s happening.
Season 3’s clash with the towering Paulie, played by bodybuilder Olivier Richters, proved the show can make even Reacher look outmatched. Still, he is so huge that many of his fights feel one-sided. He rarely gets hurt in a way that truly slows him down, which keeps Reacher from climbing higher on this list.

4 The Punisher Shows That Violence Always Leaves Scars
Jon Bernthal in a still from The Punisher | Credits: NetflixJon Bernthal‘s Frank Castle fights like a man with nothing left to lose. Netflix’s The Punisher made its brawls messy and emotional. Bernthal’s Frank swings hammers, grapples in tight spaces, and takes almost as much damage as he dishes out. By the end of most episodes, he’s bloodied, bruised, and barely standing.
Season 1’s carousel showdown with Billy Russo is a perfect example, ending in a raw, personal fight rather than one choreographed for style. However, the show sometimes slows down with long stretches of drama between fights, which places it just outside of the top three spots.

3 Banshee Delivers Bone-Crunching Brawls That Never Hold Back
Antony Starr as Lucas Hood in Banshee | Credits: CinemaxCinemax’s Banshee is a cult favorite for good reason. Antony Starr‘s Lucas Hood, an ex-con posing as a small-town sheriff, gets into some of the most exhausting fights on TV. They drag on, spill into furniture, and leave both sides gasping for air.
His early cage fight against a trained MMA fighter set the tone, with Hood absorbing heavy punishment before finally turning things around. In Season 3, Nola Longshadow’s savage showdown with Burton became a fan favorite. Banshee nails the chaos of a real fight, but its over-the-top storylines keep it just shy of the top two.
Where to Watch: HBO Max
2 Daredevil Changed the Way TV Shoots Fight Scenes
Charlie Cox in a still from Daredevil | Credits: NetflixNetflix’s Daredevil raised the bar for TV action almost overnight. Season 1’s hallway fight, shot to look like one continuous take, shows Charlie Cox‘s Matt Murdock slowly running out of steam as he battles thugs to rescue a kidnapped boy. By the end, he can barely lift his arms.
Seasons 2 and 3 topped it with a stairwell fight and an even longer prison riot sequence. Matt may have heightened senses, but he gets hurt constantly, and every win comes at a price. Only one show on this list manages to feel even more brutally real than this one.

1 Gangs of London Has the Most Brutal and Realistic Fights on TV
Created by Gareth Evans, the director of The Raid, Gangs of London is the gold standard for realistic action. Its fights are long, ugly, and terrifying. Nobody walks away clean, and even a bar brawl can feel like a fight to the death.
Episode 1’s pub fight, where Sope Dirisu’s Elliot takes on a room full of attackers with whatever he can grab, instantly became legendary. Episode 5’s farmhouse siege pushed the violence even further, turning a rural hideout into hell. Every hit has weight, every wound lingers, and characters actually die, which makes it the clear number one.
