Patrick J. Adams and Meghan Markle in Suits

SUMMARY

  • Before Suits, Patrick J. Adams and Meghan Markle starred together in a less-than-stellar pilot for a TV show.
  • But their history together would prove to be vital during the audition for Suits.
  • Adams added that Markle crushed it in the audition.

Before finding her big break in the legal drama series, Suits, Meghan Markle initially fumbled the ball hard on the pilot for 2008’s Good Behavior, which she performed alongside her Suits costar Patrick J. Adams. But given the less-than-stellar reception to it, the show never took off the ground, and it won’t be until three years later that the two actors would cross paths again.

However, this setback would prove to be vital during her audition for Suits, whose popularity has rekindled in recent years since hitting Netflix.

Following their history together on the terrible pilot of Good Behavior, things were a lot more composed when the duo joined forces for the Suits screen test. Considering Good Behavior‘s pilot too leaned towards setting up a potential romantic bond between Meghan Markle and Patrick J. Adams, when it came to their chemistry read for Suits, Adams recalled it was perfect.

I think just knowing each other and getting to calm down and not have those nerves of just getting to know one another really helped that chemistry read. It was just pretty clear that we had an easygoing thing when we went into that room.

Adams further added that he was completely assured that Meghan was set to nab the role of Rachel, stating “She crushed it and she crushes it in the show”.

It was pretty clear that she was gonna get the part from the minute we did the chemistry read. It was just so much easier than it was with anybody else.

He wasn’t wrong with his intuitions, as Adams noted, Markle definitely crushed it in the show, which went on to run for 9-successful seasons, a pretty notable improvement over Good Behavior‘s run.

While the Plan B star was convinced that Markle was going to take the gig of his romantic interest home, sentiments weren’t the same on both sides. The Horrible Bosses actor was a lot more cynical about her audition and recounted that she kept forgetting her lines and was distracted.

She recalled (via Express):

I blew it. That’s what I said to my agent after my audition for a pilot called A Legal Mind. I kept forgetting my lines, I was distracted, and I blew it. Which sucks because I really wanted this one. I really like Rachel. But I blew it. I wanted it, and I lost my shot at it. Or so I thought.

As the story goes, history didn’t repeat itself and this pilot was pretty well received, and Markle even revealed that she still had her $45 black dress from her Suits audition.

Suits is available to stream on Netflix.
