Forza Horizon 6 is not just about speeding through races and building the perfect garage. The game also encourages players to slow down and explore its massive Japan-inspired world filled with hidden landmarks, seasonal events, murals, and collectibles. One of the more unique side activities is the Photography Challenge, where players must capture specific objects and locations using Photo Mode.
These challenges reward exploration and attention to detail, making them a refreshing break from traditional racing events. In total, players need to collect and photograph 26 different locations, collectibles, landmarks, and murals to complete the Photography section of the Discover Japan journal.

The Photography challenges in Forza Horizon 6 are spread across multiple regions of the map, from busy Tokyo streets to quiet mountain villages and hidden countryside landmarks. Below, you’ll find every known photo location along with the exact area where you can capture them for your collection journal.
Seasonal Collectibles in Forza Horizon 6
Kites (Summer season)

Kites can only be found during the summer season in these two locations. Once you arrive, look above the streets and open areas, where the colorful kites are usually hanging in the air and are easy to spot while driving through town.
Koinobori Fish Flags (Spring season)

- Tokyo Tower in Tokyo City
- Narai-juku in the Shimanoyama region
- Coastal town in the northern Ito region
Koinobori fish flags appear in several areas during spring. The large fish-shaped streamers are usually suspended above roads and walkways, making them fairly easy to notice while driving through towns.
Sky Lanterns (Autumn Season)

Sky lanterns can only be found during autumn and are easier to spot at night when the glowing lanterns float across the sky. If the game is not currently in the autumn season, players can still complete the challenge through the Horizon Event Lab.
Water Lanterns (Summer Season)

- Bridge in northeastern Minamino
Water lanterns only appear during summer and are usually floating along the water near bridges and shrines. They are especially easy to spot at night due to their glowing reflections on the water.
Tanabata Streamers (Summer Season)

- Tokyo Central Railway Station Cut Through
These colorful festival streamers appear during the summer season. Look above streets and pathways where the decorations are stretched between buildings and poles.
Murals in Forza Horizon 6
Wakana Yamazaki Mural:

This mural is painted on the side of a building along the southern road of Narai-juku. It is close to other seasonal collectibles, making it easy to capture while exploring the town
Kenji Iwasaki Mural:

The Kenji Iwasaki mural is located on the side of a building near the snowy resort area. Drive south of the ski slopes and check the walls of nearby structures to find it.
Dragon 76 Mural:

This mural can be found on the north-facing side of a white building just outside Shirakawa-go village. The bright colors make it stand out clearly against the snowy environment.

The Naoshi mural is painted on the eastern side of a building beneath the radio towers. The towers themselves are visible from a distance, helping players locate the area quickly.
Lady Aiko Mural:

This is one of the trickiest murals to find due to the crowded city layout. Start near the baseball field in northwest Tokyo City and carefully check the nearby buildings while driving toward the area.
Tatsuro Kiuchi Mural:

The mural is painted on the outer wall of the southern hangar at Ito Airfield. The large open runway area makes the location fairly easy to navigate.
Okuyama Taiki Mural:

This mural is located in a small settlement north of the maze area. Search the outer walls of buildings in the town to spot the colorful artwork.
Kazuhisa Uragami Mural:

Hirosaki Castle sits on a raised platform surrounded by water and cherry blossom trees. It is one of the most scenic landmarks in the game.
Kinkaku-ji:

Kitayama Big Daisugi

Peace Torii

Shirakawa Island Farmhouse

This farmhouse sits on a small circular island beside the river. The unique location makes it easy to identify while driving through the countryside.
Sotoyama Ski Resort

To complete this objective, photograph the two large resort buildings south of the ski slopes rather than the slopes themselves.
Statue of Hachikō

Tokyo Tower

But don’t worry, as these tips should help you complete the Photography journal much faster and avoid unnecessary backtracking across the map.
- Change Seasons Often: Several collectibles only appear during spring or summer, so rotate seasons regularly if you cannot find certain items.
- Use Fast Travel: The map is massive, and fast travel helps save time when moving between distant regions.
- Explore Towns Carefully: Many murals and collectibles are hidden on side streets or attached to smaller buildings.
- Use Photo Mode Quickly: Open the Creative Hub and activate Photo Mode as soon as the object appears on-screen.
- Replay the Prologue if Needed: The Prologue race guarantees access to Koinobori Fish Flags even outside spring.
- Zoom In on the Map: Small landmarks like the Peace Torii can be difficult to notice unless the map is fully zoomed in.
