Xbox’s Tokyo Game Show 2024 presentation was a mixed bag, with a slew of new JRPG reveals that left non-JRPG fans feeling a bit underwhelmed. But it appears that the green team has a new reason to be excited: the gaming giant has announced its next Partner Preview, set to go live this Thursday, October 17, and it might just be the event Xbox enthusiasts have all been waiting for.

According to the official announcement, the broadcast promises to be a “no-fluff, all-games” affair, featuring “over a dozen new trailers over the course of around 25 minutes.” But there’s one game in particular that has been conspicuously absent from Xbox’s lineup, and fans will surely be hoping that this Partner Preview will finally bring it into the fold.

The Black Myth: Wukong Saga Continues

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve probably heard about Black Myth: Wukong, the record-breaking action RPG from Chinese developer Game Science. The game launched to critical acclaim and subsequently went on to stir up a storm on PC and PS5 back in August, but Xbox players have been left hanging ever since.

Game Science initially claimed that the console’s version was delayed because they were still “optimizing the Xbox Series X|S version to meet our quality standards.” But as time went on and no new information emerged, rumors began to swirl about the real reason behind the delay.

Some reports suggested that the game was suffering from a technical “memory leak” issue on Xbox, while other sources claimed that the delay had nothing to do with hardware issues and was instead the result of an under-the-table “exclusivity deal” between Game Science and Sony.

Microsoft even chimed in at one point, stating that they were working with Game Science to bring the game to Xbox, but also hinting at something more sinister: “We can’t comment on the deals made by our partners with other platform holders.”

A Glimmer of Hope for Xbox Fans

With all the speculation and controversy surrounding Black Myth: Wukong‘s absence from the platform, it’s no wonder that fans are eagerly awaiting any news about the game’s potential arrival on the platform. And while there’s no guarantee that the upcoming Partner Preview will finally put an end to the saga, there’s reason to be cautiously optimistic.

After all, Microsoft has promised a showcase filled with new trailers and game announcements, and what better way to generate some serious hype than by revealing that one of the year’s biggest hits is finally coming to Xbox?

Of course, it’s entirely possible that fans will all be disappointed once again, and that The Destined One will remain conspicuously absent from Xbox. But until the Partner Preview airs on Thursday, we can all hold out hope that Game Science’s masterpiece will finally be within reach for players on the green hill.

In the meantime, let’s all take a moment to appreciate the irony of the situation. Who would have thought that in a year filled with high-profile day-one Game Pass titles like Indiana Jones and the Great Circle and Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, the game that would generate the most buzz and anticipation would be a third-party title that’s already been out on other platforms for months?

But hey, that’s just the way the video gaming market works sometimes. And if Wukong does finally make its way to Xbox, you can bet that plenty of fans will be ready and waiting to dive in and see what all the fuss is about.

What do you think? Will the Xbox Partner Preview finally announce Game Science’s hit for the platform, or are fans setting themselves up for disappointment once again? Let us know in the comments below!
