Starfield’s experimentation knows no bounds, and you can create any build that suits your playstyle. However, as a beginner, you might be overwhelmed by the things you can customize so it’s best to focus on finding solid, unique weapons first. Now, there are hidden weapons hidden throughout the game, and a wrong choice could lock it away from being yours.

So, here are the 5 unique hidden weapons in Starfield that every beginner should unlock first.

1 Gallow’s Reach

Gallow’s Reach is a terrific Rare Rifle in Starfield that’s hidden deep within the main quest “No Sudden Moves”. Not only does the weapon come with 5 pre-equipped Modifications, but it also randomly deals Poison damage, slowing down the target. It’s a unique variant of the Old Earth Assault Rifle.

This weapon is located inside Petrov’s room during “No Sudden Moves”. Head through the door on the right just behind the couch where you met Petrov. After you’re inside, head left, and you’ll notice a white door on your left. Open it, go inside the bedroom, and make your way through another white door on your left. Inside, you’ll find Gallow’s Reach on the wall.

2 The Mutineer

The Mutineer is a Rare Ballistic Pistol in Starfield that deals massive damage with a magazine capacity of 6 shots. A unique variant of the Magshot, the Mutineer can be found during the “Into the Unknown” main quest. It’s pre-equipped with 4 Modifications and the Space Adept effect, making it +30% damage in space but -15% damage on a planet. It’s a powerful Pistol designed for players who prefer staying in space.

During “Into the Unknown”, you’ll meet Vladimir. Select the dialogue option “So you’re retired from the Crimson Fleet. Didn’t know that happened” to ask him about his past, and you’ll unlock the side activity “Visit Vladimir’s House”. His house is located on the planet Syrma VII-a, and once you’re inside Vlad’s Villa, head downstairs to find a locked door. Use a Digipick to bypass the Advanced Lock, and you’ll find the Mutineer inside.

3 Trickshot

The Trickshot is another Rare, unique variant of the Magshot and a devastating Ballistic Pistol that most beginners miss, as it’s not tied to any specific missions. It’s pre-equipped with 4 Modifications and the Skip Shot effect, which makes its fourth shot fire two projectiles at once. For players looking for a formidable beginner Pistol, the Trickshot will do the trick.

To find the Trickshot, head to the Narion system and view the planet Niira. Land on 1-Of-A-Kind-Salvage and head down the platforms below. Soon, you’ll notice massive Mechs on the ground. Jump on top of the Mech in front and loot the Mech Husk to obtain the Trickshot in Starfield.

4 Ember

The Ember might not be as qualified as the other unique weapons on this list, but it’s still a solid starting Energy Pistol for beginners, and it looks stylish as well. It’s a unique variant of the Solstice Laser Pistol, and it can be obtained from a side quest in Starfield, so let’s get into the specifics.

First, head to the Volii system, pick the planet Volii Alpha and select Neon as your landing spot. The mission “Back to the Grind” will appear, and you’ll need to apply for a job at a Ryujin Industries Kiosk. Approach a Kiosk and select the following answers to get selected:

• 1-4
• A Little
• Medium
• College: Masters+
• No

Submit the application, head to Ryujin Tower, speak to Imogene Salzo, and start doing quests for her. After a handful, you’ll unlock the quest “Top Secrets” in Starfield. Complete the objectives until you meet Simon. Choose the first dialogue options, then “Let’s hear about this side job”. Locate the Datura in Saturn’s Orbit, speak with Malai Liskova, and persuade her to give you the Ember. Sit down in the Pilot’s Seat, travel anywhere else, and you’ll get the Ember along with the Datura.

5 Experiment A-7

Experiment A-7 is a phenomenal Rare Ballistic Shotgun found during the mission “Entangled” in Starfield. A unique variant of the Breach Shotgun, Experiment A-7 boasts up to 8 pre-installed Modifications at high levels, along with the Exterminator effect, which makes it deal +30% damage against aliens.

During “Entangled”, you’ll visit the Nishina Research Station and meet Ethan Hughes. Progress through the mission in Starfield until you meet Rafael. Speak to him, then return to your reality to talk to Ethan. Select the following dialogue options to pass the speech check:

• I’m trying to get to the fabrication lab.
• Are there any scorpions native to this planet?
• [Persuade] I need something to fight the Cataxi in the other universe.
• Give me what I want or you’ll never get rid of me.
• I’m sure we can work something out.
• That’s better. Can we move on to the part where you give it to me?

You’ll get the Experiment A-7, and now you can use its effect to take down aliens more efficiently. It’s missable, and you need to persuade Ethan; otherwise, you’ll miss it.
