1 Him (2025) 

Him is a psychological horror directed by Justin Tipping and produced by the incredibly talented Jordan Peele. If you’d enjoy a genre mix-up, you should definitely watch Him this weekend for the way it brings suspense, thrills, and darkness to a sports drama. The story follows a young football player whose mentorship turns out to be something far more disturbing. It’s intense, thought-provoking, and really makes you think about the pressure in professional sports. It is coming to Netflix on April 19, 2026.

2 The Long Goodbye (1973) 

I’d recommend this as the perfect weekend watch to anyone who’s into slow-burn mysteries, enjoys sharp dialogue, and a bit of retro appeal. The Long Goodbye is based on Raymond Chandler’s novel and follows Philip Marlowe, a detective who’s pulled into a complicated case after helping his friend escape to Mexico. His friend is later accused of murder, and Philip sets out to find the truth.

3 Sarah’s Oil (2025)

Sarah’s Oil was one of the most inspiring movies to come out last year, and I was sad to see that it didn’t quite receive the same buzz as other biopics. I found this movie to be both educational and emotionally uplifting, as it tells the story of one of America’s youngest millionaires, Sarah Rector, an 11-year-old girl who stood tall against systemic injustice. 

She trusted her instincts and made the most out of a piece of land that everyone believed was worthless. If you’d like to watch something heartfelt and motivational to kickstart the next week, Sarah’s Oil would be a great choice.

4 When Harry Met Sally (1989)

When Harry Met Sally is one of the most beloved romantic comedies, and what I love about it is its honest and witty take on modern romance. Harry and Sally meet on a road trip and quickly realize they have different views on love and relationships, and over the next several years, their paths keep crossing, as their bond goes from platonic to something more. For those who want to end the week with something warm and funny, make sure you add When Harry Met Sally to your watchlist.

5 Saving Private Ryan (1998)

Saving Private Ryan’s Best Picture Oscar snub hurts cinephiles even to this day! This Steven Spielberg movie is one of the most powerful and realistic portrayals of war, and it follows a squad that is on a mission to save one paratrooper. The opening sequence is still one of the best you’ll ever see, depicting the D-Day landing on Omaha Beach. For an emotionally moving experience this weekend, tune in to watch Saving Private Ryan!
