4 Years Later, DreamWorks’ Best Movie of The Decade Explodes on Netflix

The 2022 DreamWorks Animation film, widely regarded by critics as one of the studio’s finest achievements of the decade, arrived on the platform only on September 10, 2026. In just two weeks, the film has climbed to the top of the charts, proving that the film was truly one of the greats.

Puss in Boots: The Last Wish arrived on Netflix along with a slate of other animated titles like The Prince of Egypt, Antz, and Flushed Away. The Last Wish stood out from that group. According to FlixPatrol data, it debuted at 8th place on the Netflix Top 10 Movies chart in the US the day after it landed, then climbed as high as second place before settling into the top 5.

The Puss in Boots movie’s resurgence is not happening in isolation, though. There has been renewed interest in DreamWorks Animation’s works ever since the anticipation for Shrek 5 has been building up. The film’s teaser trailer reminded audiences of the fairy tale world and its amazing roster of characters. The Last Wish itself has one of the greatest villains ever.

Another reason for the film’s newfound fanbase is that weekend viewing patterns generally skew towards family-friendly content. The Last Wish holds key critical weight, scoring a fresh 95% on the Tomatometer and 94% on the Popcornmeter (via Rotten Tomatoes, as of September 23, 2026). When searching for good content, all these factors definitely matter.

Finally, the studio’s creative team behind The Last Wish is back in the spotlight thanks to a new theatrical release arriving at nearly the same moment. The release of Forgotten Island, directed by Joel Crawford and Januel Mercado, has kept the directors and the film’s legacy part of the ongoing entertainment conversation. 

DreamWorks Returns This Week With Another Masterpiece on Forgotten Island

Directors Joel Crawford and Januel Mercado had been working at DreamWorks since Kung Fu Panda 2 and had struck a beautiful friendship, which formed the basis of the animation studio’s next big release, Forgotten Island. The Philippine-set story will be released on September 25, 2026, and will mark DreamWorks’ 50th feature film.

The film follows two lifelong best friends, Jo and Raissa, as they prepare to head down separate paths after finishing high school. During their final night together, the pair discover a mysterious portal that transports them to Nakali, a forgotten island steeped in Philippine folklore and populated by mythical creatures, including the Manananggal.

Much of the creative and production team from Puss in Boots: The Last Wish is returning for Forgotten Island, including producer Mark Swift. Early reactions have given the film a fresh score of 100% with 42 reviews on the Tomatometer (via RT, as of September 23, 2026). Coming off the success of The Wild Robot and The Last Wish, this film could completely revive DreamWorks’ legacy.
